Intel, NIIT go to School
Chipmaker Intel and training services provider NIIT have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase the usage of technology-assisted learning in schools in the country.

The two companies will work on improving the quality of such learning to reach global levels and increase Internet availability. They are targeting to double the number of schools benefiting from computer-aided training to 80,000 by 2010.

Intel and NIIT will integrate information and communications technology across all classes, from kindergarten to XII. They will also set up collaborative teams of IT professionals, educationists and community members to support the technology induction initiative.

"Together with NIIT, we aim to infuse global best known practices into India's education system and introduce technology-assisted learning in this vast country," said Craig Barrett, CEO of Intel. "Intel will contribute technology strengths to NIIT's content creation, curriculum delivery and education process management capability to enhance education across India," Barrett added.

1. But what does The Bible say about technology education?
Looks like India is going to get the school system would should have had, were we not a nation of superstitious idiots.

Think this sort of thing is going to help their economy over the next 20 years? Think it will hurt ours?

2. yup, that's right Intel, Microsoft etc
are setting up and paying for education, sometimes to the PhD level
of Chinese and Indians.

Charming isn't it? An American has to go into debt to get that education and here they go paying for it, building it and recruiting
students for it in other nations.

4. Or a nation of bride abusers. I will never forget that Oprah episode...
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 11:37 AM by HypnoToad
She had a big name celebrity with her co-hosting the episode. The Indian men were cruel to intended wives, including burning them if the female didn't give the male a sufficient dowry. x( And their culture also says that if the male has more money and prestige, he deserves more.

Ass-backwards. That can be their culture, but I still have a right to be sickened by such human atrocities and speak my outrage at both how they treat their own and how corporate americans...

What's the point anymore? Corporate america is going to do what it wants for the unfettered pursuit of greed. Watch as they start shifting to the euro just before the dollar is destroyed by THEIR actions.
:grr:

Lisa Ling was the co-host and here's the scoop" http://www.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200401/tows_past_20040116.jhtml

5. Please do not stereotype Indian men...
Although what you might be refering to might be true in certain cases, it is generally not the norm. White men can be stereotyped as pick up truck driving, tobacco chewing, trailer trash. But I simply don't believe that you can generalize people that way.

6. I anticipated that sort of response:
Earlier, I had started a second edit to essentially say what you had said, but opted not to. I realized I'd get that sort of response regardless of any amount of micro-management tiddley explanations I'd have written and somebody else would find a reason to nitpick anyway, so why bother and waste the typing when I knew it'd ultimately be necessary to respond to such accusations that I'm anti-something?

Yes, SOME Indian men do that sort of barbarity. Not all. That rule applies to EVERY marginalized or exploited group of people. I thought most people understood that unspoken rule.

I also wonder how many people said to Oprah what you had told me?

Oh, I'm a white gay male. what will you generalize me as? :-)

7. LOL....
No generalizations from me, I am a liberal. But the elements you are referring to is found in Indian society, but it typically is not found in the middle and educated class.

Most of the problems assert themselves with poverty and lack of education and this is true for most culture.

3. * talks of education for Americans... Intel is a traitor corporation.
* is dumb because anything worth training for (manufacturing, IT, legal services) are going out the door TO India.

Now Intel, instead of helping its own, is doing this monsterous act?

Fuck 'em.

I've been AMD for years and sure as hell won't change now.
