Revision Marches to Social Agenda (Conservatives revising textbooks)
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 11:37 AM by Tab
... At the urging of Leo and several other members — who describe themselves as Christian conservatives — the board this month approved new health textbooks for high school and middle school students after publishers said they would tweak references to marriage and sexuality.

One agreed to define marriage as a "lifelong union between a husband and a wife." Another deleted words that were attacked by conservatives as "stealth" references to gay relationships; "partners," for example, was changed to "husbands and wives." A passage explaining that adolescence brings the onset of "attraction to others" became "attraction to the opposite sex."

Leo said she pushed for the changes to combat the influence of "liberal New York publishers" who by "censoring" the definition of marriage were legitimizing same-sex unions.

Some education advocates have criticized the board's decision.

Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 12:09 PM by fudge stripe cookays
Who the fuck are they kidding. Don't forget the temporary ones on the side that our politicos in charge are so fond of.

11. "till death do us part" everyone says it and means it at the time
but the divorce rate in the red states is higher than in Massachusetts

14. See, I didn't want to
use the words "red state" since I live in one, but I know what you're getting at.

Those with a "red state of mind" are much quicker to dump their vows than we are.

4. i hope they also
point out the fact that you will burn in fiery hell if you choose to have pre-marital sex.

and of course the textbooks should be re-written to portray GWB as he is, the greatest president ever, not as he is portrayed by the damn "new york liberals"

<endSarcasm>

actually most textbooks are so full of half-truths if not outright lies already it's pathetic. thank god i had a real history professor in college who was very anti-textbook.

5. This is why LOCAL elections are so important
The DNC should open its wallet to Dems in every community it can, to try and help people get their political careers STARTED..

The repubes have a ready, well-financed, and oh-so willing farm team in every community..

That's how it starts.. Textbooks teach the NEXT generation of voters...so why are we suddenly surprised that "kids don't know as much" as we all did when we were in school..

Their education in some areas , is NOT fact based.. It's FAITH-based..

Can we really blame them when they don't know any better?

9. correct
they're embedded in every local community government, and the GOP knows that winning even the smallest and most backwater elected position is one more seat that we don't have...they've been playing for keeps for decades now...when will we start?

7. make no mistake, "New York liberal" is code for "Jew"
just as "welfare queen" or "welfare cheat" was code for "black."

Once the cryptofascists complete their chokehold on America, they can completely discard the codewords...

24. good point, what you write wouldn't surprise me at all. The Dem
kids will have to be indoctrinated, won't they? And if you teach evolution to them at home, you will probably be jailed.

18. 3rd graders in TX will pee their pants laughing at that one--
here in "upscale" Sugar Land, I'd conservatively guess that 60% or more of the students in my daughter's class parents are divorced. At least once.

17. Those reasons to LEAVE just keep stacking up.
I think once in a while I really try to think up a good reason to stay: Not only do I come up short, almost DAILY there's some drivel in some shitpile like Spring, Texas, driving the textbooks of the entire nation, that makes me say,

WE AIN'T GETTIN' OUTAHERE SOON ENOUGH TO SUIT ME.

23. We have to Stay and Fight!
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/elections/results/txbedu.html

Texas Board of Education
(I) indicates incumbent
(X) denotes winner
Results from The Associated Press

(460 of 460 precincts - 100 percent)
x-DAVID BRADLEY, GOP (I) 326,799 87%
WILLIAM MCNICOLL, LIB 47,476 13%

Take a look at those results! A Democrat didn't even run! The Libertarian got 13%!

This could be competitive if we actually fought for it! How many more are out there just like this? I feel shame for ever having disparaged the 3rd parties, at least they're TRYING!

Lets get together with them, build from that 13% - an Anti Authoritarian Alliance! Where we don't agree with each other, we have to look past our differances and come together where we all agree:

THE NEO-CONS MUST BE STOPPED!

25. I think we should have red text books and blue ones.
The red ones can have faith based teachin and the blue ones can have fact based teaching. Anyone in a blue state who doesn't like it should move to a red state and visa versa. Then we can succeed form the Reichties and they can have their faith based country and we can have our intelligence.
