Weapons stockpile found in Mosul
BAGHDAD, Iraq — U.S. forces uncovered on Monday a massive weapons stockpile that included anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missiles and a building filled with explosive materials outside the northern city of Mosul, the military said.

Troops from the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, unearthed the weapons cache about 45 kilometers south of Mosul in the village Shafaat, a statement said.

Among the weapons and munitions found were one anti-aircraft gun, 15,000 anti-aircraft rounds, 4,600 hand grenades, 144 grenade launchers, 25 surface-to-air missiles, 21 mortar rounds, 10 rockets and artillery rounds.

Soldiers also discovered a building full of explosive-making materials, the statement said. No other details were available.

The three-acre site has been secured and more weapons and munitions are expected to be uncovered, the military said.

Mosul is located 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.

1. I hardly think this is all of it. Probably just a small stash. In fact,
there's still 380 tons of stuff running around somewhere, last seen in the back of Toyota pickups. Or so I understand.

2. Why do they report this
as though it is significant? This is what any country would have laying around. Have we sacrificed 1200 American and 100,000 Iraqi lives to find ONE anti-aircraft gun?

3. None of which are banned weapons.
Iraq is and always has been totally allowed to have conventional weapons. Watch the freeping rightwingnuts start shouting "We found them we found them!" ROTFL!

5. These all are conventional weapons.
WMD = nukes. Also banned are chemical & bio weapons. All of which Iraq hasn't had since 1991.

It's subtle, but imo any glancer would immediately regurgitate all the WMD-memes from his memory, linking this find to WMD.

7. But what about the 21 mortar rounds?
Surely it was worth invading for that.
