Source: Spitzer has told some he will run for governor
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Democrat Eliot Spitzer, the state attorney general who has gained national attention battling Wall Street institutions, has begun telling close associates he will run for governor in 2006, one of those told said Monday.

"He's planning to run. He believes he can turn the state around," said the fellow Democrat who spoke only on condition of anonymity.

Spitzer is expected to make his intentions public early next month, said the source.

There was no immediate comment Monday from Spitzer. Spokesman Darren Dopp said: "Mr. Spitzer will address that issue at the appropriate time and in the appropriate place."

Spitzer has frequently said he is considering a run for governor and would like the job. He has created a "Spitzer 2006" campaign committee that plans a $1,000-a-person fund-raiser on Dec. 9 in New York City.

1. I hope so
for the people of NY, that is. Eliot Spitzer is a really good guy who has stood up time and time again against corporate interests. Plus, the right-wing HATES him!

3. Good. Now who can we get to run for mayor?
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 10:31 PM by Stephanie

Bloomberg and Pataki are HISTORY, the pricks. After putting NYC under police state tactics during the RNC coronation ceremonies, after incarcerating thousands of us pre-emptively, those two should be on trial, not running for office.

We somebody OUTRAGEOUSLY excellent for mayor. Not like Arnold. More like Bill Clinton.

Bill, if you're reading this: if you run for mayor I will stay in New York. If you won't, I am out of here.

4. Spitzer
I hope he is able to successfully indict and convict those REALLY responsible for 9/11 along the way!

5. Wouldn't be too surprising...
...he's been spending time raising his public profile over the last several months. My favorite story was the week he took on those bastards selling the commemorative coin supposedly clad in silver retrieved from Ground Zero. I haven't lived in NY since 1989, but I wrote him a nice e-mail anyway. :)
