Audit Lays Blames for Fla. Database Errors (By Lax Election Officials)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida elections officials were lax in their oversight of the company that created a flawed database of felons and dead voters, but there was no intent to disenfranchise anyone, an internal audit of the project found.

The audit by the Department of State's inspector general, released Monday, concerned the state's now-canceled contract with the consulting firm Accenture, which was paid $2.3 million to create the database.

The list, primarily intended to help local elections officials purge voter rolls of convicted felons without voting rights and people who had died since the last election, matched a list of registered voters with other lists of deaths and criminal records sent in by other state agencies.

Secretary of State Glenda Hood's office abandoned the project earlier this year after acknowledging that 2,500 ex-felons were on the list even though their voting rights had been restored and that, due to a technical glitch, Hispanics were largely absent from the list. Hispanics often vote Republican in Florida, and some critics questioned whether there was intent to purge some felons, but not others.

4. The company that created the database - Accenture
was granted a $10 Billion contract by Homeland Security this summer despite the fact that its parent company is in Bermuda. The dems in congress tried to stop the deal but failed.

So Accenture isn't a disinterested party making errors. More like a buddy scratching the other guys' back.

5. contrary to this story, there IS evidence this was deliberate
this story does not mention the very relevant part of the story, in which the state of Florida refused to let the media examine the list, and they had to be sued. The judge ruled in favor of the media, which is why these problems were found.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/05/28/fla.vote/

<snip>

The state Monday denied a CNN request for a copy of the list of up to 48,000 people. These people, according to the state, could be ineligible to vote because they are felons or have multiple registrations -- or have died since the last election.

7. NO Intent NOT to Disenfranchise Anyone, Either
What a load of manure! Declare Florida a permanent disaster and strip it of any say in the national government until it can prove some basic competence in democratic principles and procedures.

8. What isn't anyone calling this for the fraud that it is...
This is so stupid. I just saw this headline less than five minutes ago on yahoo front page but when I went back it was gone...

Is this good or bad, is there something here they don't want people questioning or should I just ignore it...

9. Mistakes were made. Somehow they.....just happened. Technical
glitches and all that, you know. Computer malfunction is a serious possibility. But we caught the mistakes so the system worked! No harm no foul.

10. Yuh, right. Trying to get us to believe that Bu$h really was elected
and to "heal and unite".:puke:

NFW.

The only way I'll ever unite behind Bu$h is when he is running from a bunch of very upset Americans that are carrying torches and pitchforks.

12. I have NEVER known a "lax election officer",...
,...unless bought and paid for, outright,...which is quite rare these days.

The "blame-staking" imposed by right-wing power-mongers has GOT to be replaced with those PROVING to adhere to personal accountability. It is absolutely, freakin' appalling to me that the worst offenders of human decency, dignity and morality are at the bizarre pulpits of power.

On second thought,...I guess human fall-out always begets human potential. The damage in the throes of all that,...hurts,...so much. It all makes me wonder whether we, humanity, are the best or worst of all advances. I guess we, humanity, are simply a part of that process which we will never understand,...always seek to master. Thank God,...it is all "small stuff" and temporary.
