Attempt to Block Rule On Overtime Thwarted
An attempt to block the Bush administration's proposed changes in overtime rules was killed before the 2005 spending bill received final congressional approval over the weekend.

Democrats attached an amendment to the Senate's version of the bill that would have overturned the overtime regulations, which went into effect in August. The amendment, which would have prevented any worker previously covered by overtime from losing that protection, was deleted in a conference committee.

The White House had threatened to veto the entire $388 billion spending bill if the overtime amendment was included.

Democrats say they will continue to fight to overturn the regulations next year.
"This battle isn't over," Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) said in a statement. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Kennedy "intend to push hard" to eliminate the overtime regulations, a Kennedy spokesman said.

1. Take a lesson Dem Senators...
hear that? Bush would veto the entire bill if that ONE provision was in there.

Let's take that provision re losing abortions rights. Seems as good as any reason to vote AGAINST the entire bill.

We could learn a few things from the republicans.

3.  I can't help it .I hate them all. The repugs. I hope they
implode. Hell is too good for them . There I have said it. This overtime ruling is one of the most disgusting things they have ever done. This combined with the ant-abortion and privacy violations as well as a mandate to drug our children passed over the weekend is too much. We cannot survive four years of this we really can't. I hope all who voted for Bush rot. This is evil incarnate.

17. Don't insult pigs.
You'd never see animals act like we humans act, doing their best to screw each other over for a fast buck. These people are uncaring, thoughtless monsters.

11. wtf...what all was in this damn bill...
I have been having trouble keeping up....amazing for a spending bill...

We have the abortion issue (ethical dilemma)
Increasing the h1b visa cap
An amendment to require parental permission on mental health screening
Allowing Congress to review tax returns (I think this was side barred?)

What else....I think I'm missing a few....

18. Yeah, where is all the righteous indignation
over that little inclusion? Imagine what the press and the repubs would be doing if this was a Democratic administration and they put that in. Oh, the horror....republican heads exploding on an hourly basis on FOX and CNN.

16. SO TRUE!
Yep, the ones casting the votes are exempt from overtime anyway. They are not representing the majority of Americans (Demos & Repukes alike!).

-- Remove overtime amendment proposal or scrap the whole bill (I say call their threat and scrap the entire bill so they can't get us further in debt for their corporate elite and extend our national debt)
-- Give free access to everyone's tax return
-- Revoke abortion hospital care

I am really sick of we'll take care of this later attitude on the hill. It's now or possibly never!

WE NEED THE 80+% of Americans who do not agree with the Bush agenda to STAND UP AND PROTEST IN AN ORGANIZED MANNER. We desparately need Legislation "Score Cards" and daily "Call to Actions" posted somewhere and unite and flood the hill and our reps protesting this stuff BEFORE it gets the Bush rubber stamp.
