Summit's agenda hijacked by Bush
As far as I can tell this is not an editorial. And if this link doesn't work, I don't know why....I retrieved it from top of the page address window. Not sure why my first thread on this article was locked so that I couldn't edit it.

Summit's agenda hijacked by Bush

23.11.2004
By FRAN O'SULLIVAN at Apec

SANTIAGO, Chile - United States President George W. Bush again hijacked the agenda at this year's Apec summit, using it to mount a new attack on the "Axis of Evil" nations North Korea and Iran.

It was a move that the Asia-Pacific leaders acquiesced to by their silence.

Not one leader tackled the validity of the United States' Iraq invasion in their closed meetings - it was not even discussed, said New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.

Rather, the leaders chose to become an informal cheer squad to support the efforts of the second-term Bush Administration to bring the recalcitrant nuclear nations to account....cont'd

1. In reading this, it seems to me the APEC members tolerated bush
but gave his speechifying little merit. The reality was that China was the "talk of the conference". There were numerous trade deals, etc, solidified under the radar and you will find the US is not included in them.

2. Crap, going to war AGAIN
I don't want to fight nations with no aggression towards us. It's getting old.

6. Clinton would have been in the center of that group
Bush is an outsider that nobody want to be seen with.

GREAT PICTURE.

7. My curiosity is peaked as to who IS the center of attention...
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 08:44 AM by Spazito
in that photo. Not only is bush ignored, note no one is even looking in his direction as he leaves but, also, someone is holding the attention of all the members in this photo. Could it be China?

Edited to add: or Japan? or Russia?

10. Koizumi Is The Dude In The FAB Grey Suit(Japan)
With his back to the camera, Putin would be visible if he were in the crowd as he is taller than Koizumi, so my guess is they are huddled around China. Sorry not sure of the name.

4. What exactly does this mean?
"He pledged to tackle massive unfunded liabilities in US entitlement systems "

For those that are a little more up on what spin they are laying on these days, I'd be interested to hear what the * camp is saying about this.

5. My take: Privatize Social Security
allow the US population to lose their social security in support of the 1%ers.

14. Good read.
Whenever I think about unfunded mandates, I seem to think of Every Child Left Behind. But I knew, given the source, that that couldn't have been right :)
