Powell: 'Good strategy' in Iraq, Afghanistan
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/07/sprj.irq.powell/index.html

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday defended the Bush administration's policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying they have been successful.

But a top Democratic senator said Powell's characterization "flies in the face" of daily attacks on U.S. troops and recent bombings in Iraq, including attacks on the Jordanian embassy, the U.N. headquarters, an Iraqi police station and a Muslim mosque.

<snip>

Powell "We have a good strategy and we're executing that strategy," he said. "The results are that two despotic regimes are gone. The results are that there will be no more mass graves created ... that children are going back to school."

Kennedy"The administration has to abolish its 'my-way-or-the-highway' attitude," Kennedy said. "For the secretary to suggest that we have a successful strategy flies in the face of the fact that we're seeing Americans killed daily" and have seen several recent bombings.

"We don't have an exit strategy," he said. "It's difficult to understand how you can have a successful policy in Iraq when you don't have an exit strategy."

1. So now overthrowing despots is right in and of itself?

2. Powell totally flaked on
what France, Germany, et al can expect in return for sending troops to Iraq, and nixed the idea of UN leadership.

I guess we have to lose a few hundred more GIs....

5. Colon overwhelmed by Flatulence.
He is a suck up isn't he.

I would like to see him tell some troop's mother that her son died for Exxon oil and Haliburton. This guy is a perfumed prince.

4. Harry Belafonte was right about Powell.
When Mr. Belafonte first said the things he said about Mr. Powell, I disagreed with him, now I'm beginning to think he was right.

6. Gee, Powell certainly had some pointed criticisms when it was Clinton
But now, "exit strategy"? What's that?

Although I have to admit the strategy has been highly successful. After all, Halliburton and Bechtel might have had a lot of explaining to do about those open-ended no-bid contracts. Now, it barely raises an eyebrow from our supine presstitutes. But why is Powell talking about despotic regimes, mass graves and kids going to school?
