EU pledges help for Iraqi elections

The European Union (EU) pledged Tuesday to offer financial and humanitarian assistance to Iraq for its upcoming elections as well as the reconstruction process. EU offered more than 30 million euros (about 39.3 million US dollars) to help Iraq prepare for the elections scheduled to be held on Jan. 30, 2005.

The financial aid would be earmarked for technical support,election staff training, voter appeal campaign and media coverage. EU stressed the importance of holding the election in time,hoping that the election would be a credible and all-inclusive onesince the well-being of a future Iraq depends on the very successof it. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2004-11/23/content_2252842.htm
