U.S. Troops Wounded in Iraq War Tops 9,000
WASHINGTON - The number of U.S. troops wounded throughout Iraq (news - web sites) since the Fallujah offensive began Nov. 7 has surpassed 850, and the wounded total for the entire war has topped 9,000, the Pentagon (news - web sites) said Tuesday.

In its weekly report on casualties the Pentagon said 9,326 U.S. troops have been wounded since U.S. forces invaded Iraq in March 2003. That's an increase of 370 from the previous week, reflecting not only the battles in Fallujah but insurgent attacks in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities.

The wounded total has increased by 868 since the outset of the Fallujah offensive and by 1,039 since Nov. 1. The Pentagon has not given a comprehensive report on the number of American forces killed and wounded in Fallujah alone, but officials said last week that at least 51 had been killed and 425 wounded.

And how many more non-combat wounded has this war created? :(

3. 1,227 dead and 9,326 wounded.
This is approaching Vietnam-style numbers.

This is my generation's Vietnam.

4. An honest story, an ACTUAL news story
would point out that these are only 'official' numbers and that there have been questions of the accuracy.

12. That's very true
60 minutes did a story Sunday suggesting the "official" tally of wounded may be understated.

5. Pentagon is about 10,000 short on the number of wounded
A few weeks ago, PBS did a story on the under-reporting of wounded.....

6. I may sound cold
...but after the overwhelming support for Bush among the military, I no longer feel sympathetic. I, however, feel for the small percantage that tried to alter the agressive foriegn policy of their C in C, but we tried, and hey, its an all-volunteer army!

10. As a veteran I find your comment stupid and offensive.
There are many fine people in the military and they are not all Bush supporters. I feel sympathy for all the troops that have been wounded.

14. The Military and Their Families Are Heavily Pro Bush
I don't feel sorry for them any more. They're gettin what they deserve. They had a real chance to save their own lives, and they threw it away on Nov. 2nd. They voted for a guy that ducked military service instead of one of their own who actually served bravely and heroically.

I have no more sympathy for them. None.

8. By whose count? Let's try visiting reality,...
,...just, once.

Who the fuck put this number out?

Oh,...ahhhhh,...let me guess,...the military industrial complex which now RULES, RULES, RULES.

Maybe a "station for identification" oughta' be set up for our loyal warriors rather than historians-for-bullshit, sucking for their own fame,...be allowed the honors.

Doncha' think? :bounce:

11. 30,000 wounded is more like it

I read in another DU thread that it was more like 30,000 total so far and counting for the wounded. What can you say, schrubers are a little off the mark in alot of ways.

16. The number does not include those hurt
by accident during the course of duties....or any psychological injury.

Many good men....many thoudands...are coming back unable to live normal lives because of what they've seen and done. The pentagon wants everyone to ignore these folks.
