During a telephone conversation held on Sunday, the two ministers said a new resolution on Iraq should help ensure the UN's central role in Iraq's rebuilding and contribute to the earliestpossible restoration of its sovereignty and the creation of legitimate and internationally recognized bodies of power there, Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
They also addressed the new situation in Palestinian-Israeli relations following the resignation of Mahmoud Abbas as Palestine's prime minister.
They expressed their concern over possible new aggravation of dangerous situation on the Palestinian territories, which could deal a heavy blow to the implementation of the "road map" peace plan, developed by Russia, the United States, the EU and the UN, said the statement.
