Republican Challenges (Ukrainian) Election Based On Exit Polls
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 03:42 PM by TeddyKGB
Irony, anyone?

An international election observer mission - from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the European Parliament, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Council of Europe - released a preliminary report on Monday declaring that the election did not meet democratic standards.

The observers' findings were seconded by Republican Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Citing the disturbing fact that official results diverged sharply from a range of surveys of voters at polling places, Lugar said, "A concerted and forceful program of election-day fraud and abuse was enacted with either the leadership or cooperation of governmental authorities."

3. Well
There's obviously nothing wrong since it's merely a discrepancy between exit polls and the actual count.
OH, that's right, that's only unimportant and irrelevant here, especially in Ohio and Florida...

"Western observers have said that Sunday's election, which preliminary results say Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich won, fell far short of international standards and the United States warned of punitive measures if the Ukraine Government failed to investigate allegations of vote rigging.

More than 100,000 supporters of liberal, West-leaning candidate Viktor Yushchenko poured into the streets of Kiev on Monday after the result became clear and the charges of vote count fraud mounted."

Why weren't tens of thousands of Americans marching in the streets on November 3rd???

7. Why weren't thousands marching?
Because the Democratic Party keeps thinking it's going to be able to work with the Republicans, instead of actually serving as an OPPOSITION party.

Once we figure out we're IN OPPOSITION to the PARTY IN POWER, we'll get somewhere, and get some respect as well.

The irony of this story, however, makes my head explode.

10. Yep.
But then we knew Republicans have no shame and no decency.
"Ukrainian election was rigged because exit polls showed the other guy ahead?"
:wow:

8. Amazing. I just sent this to Olberman.
Maybe he can find out if Lugar has acknowledged the same in our election numbers vs exit polling.

14. Here's another good article on the hypocrisy, this one by Robert Perry
Big Media's Democracy Double Standards

The Washington Post and other leading American newspapers are up in arms about the legitimacy of a presidential election where exit polls showed the challenger winning but where the incumbent party came out on top, amid complaints about heavy-handed election-day tactics and possibly rigged vote tallies.

In a lead editorial, the Post cited the divergent exit polls, along with voter claims about ballot irregularities, as prime reasons for overturning the official results. For its part, the New York Times cited reports of “suspiciously, even fantastically, high turnouts in regions that supported” the government candidate. The U.S. news media is making clear that the truth about these electoral anomalies must be told.

Of course, the election in question occurred in the Ukraine.

In the United States – where exit polls showed John Kerry winning on Nov. 2, where Republican tactics discouraged African-American voting in Democratic precincts, and where George W. Bush’s vote totals in many counties were eyebrow-raising – the Post, the Times and other top news outlets mocked anyone who questioned the results.

For instance, when we noted Bush’s surprising performance in Dade, Broward and other Florida counties, a Washington Post article termed us “spreadsheet-wielding conspiracy theorists.” Meanwhile, the New York Times accepted unsupported explanations for why the U.S. exit polls were so wrong, including the theory that Kerry supporters were chattier than Bush voters.

16. Well it is amazing isn't it?
That the Ukraine would be able to have real exit polls.....you know the ones that people think are relevant - but the birthplace of democracy - the good old USA - can not be able to have accurate exit polls.......perhaps the ukrainians should teach us how exit polling is done after all!!!!!!!!
