Senator, wife are jury pool washouts (Santorums)
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04329/416660.stm

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and his wife, Karen, walk down the seventh floor corridor of the City-County Building, Downtown, yesterday during a break in jury selection for a civil case involving an illness caused by asbestos. Both were called as potential jurors in the case and later dismissed.

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who suffered some embarrassment this past summer when local news media reported his failure to respond to a jury summons, made amends yesterday, reporting for jury service, along with his wife, Karen.

The Santorums showed up to serve in a pool of 48 potential jurors in an Allegheny County Common Pleas Court trial.

And Rick Santorum made sure the media knew about it. One of his staffers contacted Pittsburgh journalists to remind them that the senator would finally be fulfilling his civic duty.

Court records show that Santorum had obtained three deferrals in the past two years and had failed to respond to a fourth summons. His wife had obtained eight deferrals since 2000.

1. We're out to get him, right?
I should hope so. After 2006, I never want to hear about him again, ever!

4. he's got two potential opponents who could take him out, too....
Barbara Hafer in the primary, or Bob Casey in the general. Neither is perfect, but either would be waaaaaaaaaay better. Unlike that dork, Ron Klink, whom he steamrolled in 2000, these two could easily beat him.

8. Rendell?
His term should be up by '06, right?

He'd wipe the floor with Santorum, wring him out, and leave him to dry over the radiator.

11. "Rendell?"
Actually, as one from Pennsylvania, I would rather see Rendell run for president. Eddie loves to eat, he could harvest the "fat" vote, one of the largest groups in America and many feel discriminated against these days, since the bish coward declared war on us. It's ironic that NO politician goes after the fat vote, considering how many there are, and how many are offended by some of the elite's comments and new laws etc. If Rendell went after the fat votes, it would bring a new meaning to a "big" turnout.

13. I heard Hafer switched to Dem so she could run against Santorum
Her problem will be that the Casey Dems are a very independent subset of Pennsylvania Dems - so there could be a real battle between them in the primary. That would be too bad because I think either of them could beat Santorum.

16. You have a better chance of finding a Democrat in PA or the US
with a spine than you do of santorum losing. He'll win without much sweat.

2. The face you just want to punch so bad.
He was on local tv today saying he didn't owe the school district anything after he bilked it for 100 grand. Smug sanctimonious bastard needs to be shown the door.

7. Mess with the education fund, and you're out. We had a commissioner
who tried to hold the school board hostage over a land deal. He ran 3rd in a three man race.

This will dog him. He has become a negative media darling.

Yes, good old Senator "Man on Dog."

Rick is upset, because someone out there, right now, is having goatsex...and it's not him.

3. Better not have HIM on your jury... NO pain and suffering $ for YOU, dude!
Now his WIFE... gee how can she still even walk around the City County bldg. considering she sued for 400 grand (got less but still a lot) due to her chiropractor severely "injuring" her back???

Of course she did have two kids after that, so...

12. Bet they left Pittsburgh for their real home (VA) that night.
Jury duty in Allegheny County is for one day only. If you're not selected for a jury that day, you're off the hook. Hope that excellent woman reporter who broke the story about the charter school fees was able to document whether they stayed overnight with their renters in that little two bedroom house.

Santorum's Penn Hills house gets occupancy permit

Wednesday, November 24, 2004

By Eleanor Chute, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum has cleared up another issue that arose after the Penn Hills School District began investigating whether he is a Penn Hills resident.

<snip>

Flinn said the residents are listed as Alyssa DeLuca, Rick Santorum's niece; her husband, Bart, who is not related to Penn Hills Mayor Anthony DeLuca Jr.; and a child. The home is located next door to Rick Santorum's in-laws.

In the county for jury duty yesterday, Santorum, who has six children, said, "We have a nice arrangement there. It works out well. Candidly, we just sort of work it out.

"Sometimes, a couple of my kids stay over there . We get to stay at grandma's house, and a couple of kids go over and stay with their cousin. To me, that's a family situation.

"I don't know what people's business that is, to be very honest with you. The fact is, I own a home, pay taxes, reside here, go to jury duty. To me, this is much ado about nothing.

<snip>

Go to jury duty? Sure, if you count a combined total of eleven deferrals and one no-show, I guess showing up once constitutes jury duty. :eyes:

Much ado about nothing, Ricky? We'll see about that...

14. It is ridiculous to have both the husband and wife in
the same jury pool, in the unlikely event one of them was selected, it is certain both would not be selected. They came knowing one would get out of it for sure.

15. How stupid are they?
If you keep asking for deferrals, your name keeps coming back to the top. The wife's had EIGHT deferrals since 2000? I've been called like once in ten years. If you show up ready to serve, you go to the bottom of the list and you don't get called again for a long time. That's the way it works where I live, anyway.
