Ukraine Opposition Leader Calls for Strike
KIEV, Ukraine -- Election officials declared the Kremlin-backed prime minister the winner in Ukraine's bitterly disputed presidential vote, prompting opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday to call for a nationwide strike, vowing to fight what he and Western nations have labeled widespread vote fraud.

The Central Election Commission's announcement of victory for Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych in Sunday's election raised fears of violence in the capital, where tens of thousands of Yushchenko supporters rallied for the third straight day and riot police guarded key government buildings.

Sunday's runoff election has been denounced as fraudulent by Western observers, and Secretary of State Colin Powell said the United States cannot accept the result, warning "there will be consequences" in the two countries' relationship.

The Central Election Commission announced that Yanukovych won 49.46 percent of the vote, to Yushchenko's 46.61 percent.

1. Now all we need
is for the Ukrainian Green Party to demand a recount and a judge then issue a TRO against it and the irony meter will go tilt.

6. Welcome to DU DNO, I see you've not been here long.
Maybe you could explain why you think Yushchenko is a Bush shill. I assume that's what you meant, but it's hard to tell since you've been so non-specific. If you have information other than from Pravda or some other Russian government mouthpiece, we'd like to hear it.

Now, Yakunovich is definitely the shill of Putin. Shit, Putin even came to Ukraine to campaign for him! Putin probably thinks Ukraine should be annexed to Russia or something. I think there are several million Ukrainians who think otherwise though. To hell with the Russkies, they've raped their country long enough. - K

7. Bush is campaigning for Yushchenko right now!
This guy is a US puppet. Now, whether the majority of Ukrainians prefer a US stooge to a Russian one is debatable, but, please, let's be realistic enough to acknowledge just on whose payroll Yushchenko is.

10. Yup!
Ukraine is between a rock and a hard place: communist thug vs. capitalist thug. The country is split between which thug they want.
Puti wants one and Bu$h wants the other.

9. While you are at it, Yushchenko, could you call for a strike in the U.S.
It might get someone's attention, that the exact same thing that happened in the Ukraine happened in the U.S. - the only difference is that the evidence of fraud is more conclusive in the U.S. election.
