Lofgren latest to seek Electoral College's end -
Washington -- South Bay Rep. Zoe Lofgren has proposed a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College, saying that it's positively un-American for some voters to have more of a say in picking the nation's president and vice president than others and for much of the country to be ignored by candidates focusing on those few states whose results are in doubt.
.........
But as Lofgren points out, wide disparities in the number of votes needed to win a single electoral vote show that the system fashioned by the founding fathers has outlived its usefulness. For instance, Wyoming, population 500,000, is guaranteed the minimum three electoral votes allotted to each state and the District of Columbia. That equals 1 elector for every 165,000 people.

In contrast, California, with 35 million people and 55 electoral votes, has 1 elector for every 635,000 people, roughly one-fourth the vote power of Wyoming.

"It's hard to believe that one American's vote is worth four times as much as another American's,'' said Lofgren, a Democrat from San Jose who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, where constitutional amendments are heard. "It doesn't feel fair.''

1. Not to mention that its abolition
would make the prospects of successful fraud much more difficult. Defrauding the vote in a single close state or two would not successfully reverse a national trend.

6. We have to get rid of the damn Diebold and similar machines of
we will be a religio-fascist country in a very short time. The republicans have lost of decency, and the stupid fundi's are supporting false prophets and are too dumb to know it.

3. Yay!
Go, Zoe, go!

I'm afraid the effort will go nowhere, but I've become a pessimist lately, and I hope I'm wrong about this.

4. Worse, when one becomes dictator it's 290 million times more.
I think the electoral college has *ie shaking in his boots and has Rove squashing all recount media stories. They don't want the electoral college guys to go in there and do their job.

I do prefer retaining the elctoral college, but, could live without it. The inequitable distribution of power is not going to be a deciding factor for me.

Let EVERY vote count. Mine is just as important as Sue Jones in NY, Jane Doe in Texas and Carla Cadiddihoper in Oregon.
