Ukraine State TV in Revolt
Journalists on Ukraine's state-owned channel - which had previously given unswerving support to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych - have joined the opposition, saying they have had enough of "telling the government's lies".

<...>

A correspondent on the state channel, UT1, announced live on the evening bulletin that the entire news team was going to join the protests in Independence Square. She said their message to the protesters was: "We are not lying anymore".

<...>

Even the sign-language presenter said that in an earlier bulletin, she had rejected the pro-government script and informed her viewers instead of the allegations of vote-rigging.

<...>

This new balance in TV coverage on previously government-controlled channels means that pictures making plain the huge size of the opposition demonstrations can now reach the heartland of Mr Yanukovych's support in the east of the country.

<...>

Now that Ukrainian journalists have openly rebelled against such tight government control, Mr Yanukovych appears to have lost one of the key pillars of his support. It is another clear sign that the momentum behind the opposition is growing ever stronger.

24. we don't have any journalists like that in the US
We have Jon Stewart, which must count for something since he has more credibility than any of the corporates whores on TV.

3. We need to watch and learn
and so do our Dem "leadership". Dare we hope to see our media some day be as brave as those in the Ukraine now? I doubt it.

I hope things don't get violent & bloody over there before all's said and done.

Well, actually we do have a few.

They are just marginalized and outnumbered by the corporate whores.

6. I didn't think it was possible
to be more ashamed of my country than I already was, but I am. I don't suppose that anybody in our media will be in the least bit shamed by this.

Maybe the Ukrainians can start giving us democracy lessons.

13. No, there seems to be an extreme shortage of shame in this country's
"media"and it's "leadership". Gee I find myself having to use quotations a lot more these days. Both of these groups appear to be without the irony gene as well.

Would one ever have thought in a million years that Americans would be envying Ukrainians? Soviet block nation fighting for Democracy, supposed Democratic America can't be bothered. It's shopping season.

Some days it gets really hard to fight for such a substandard country.

20. Don't worry. As the money stops "trickling" down,...
,...and the shopping daze becomes nothing BUT a commercial,...they will be hard pressed to pay attention and figure out why their reality is hugely conflicting political propaganda.

Ukraine is an independent state. Wait, I think that bears repeating ... Ukraine is an independent state, its own country. Get it? Your analogy is quite false.

12. It's a bittersweet feeling I get when reading that
How FAR they have come in the former USSR. HOW WELL they are using their newfound freedom to the advantage of the PEOPLE, not the corporations.

If only we could turn the clock back on media consolidation, we might be in a similiar situation here.

I have almost NO respect for any news anchor anymore. I can't think of one I trust to tell me the WHOLE TRUTH anymore. All have turned into propagandists.

Of course, he is the first to call himself a fake news anchor. But he isn't, he really, truly, isn't. Care to guess who I'm talking about? I idolize him btw.

19. Do you think the Ukraine could influence US opposition and revolution
just as our revolution influenced the French revolution? We can hope can't we. If our journalists had half the integrity.

All the FOX pundits and media whores can do is laugh about Dan Rather and damn him with faint praise. In my opinion not one FOX reporter is worthy to wipe Rather's dusty feet. Dan rubbed a lot of people the wrong way but he is the last of the fearless mainstream journalists.
