2. Rumsfield's
big chalkboard in the pentagon must look like this.
130,000 - 5 = 129,995 to go.

I'm really sick of this. Someone much braver than myself will be the spark that starts the beginning of the end of this shit.

5. It is tragic and infuriating
that our greatest resource (our men and women in arms), are used with such callous abandon. I fear that the "dead heads" of this country (a by product of the dumbing down of America), will wake up only when they hear the squealing from their wallets, and investments.:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

6. I don't think it will happen in my lifetime.....
Our country has been so dumbed down in the almost 4 decades I've been an adult that I have no hope any more. Yes, I do see the occasional young person who is cultured and intelligent and a reader and interested in current/world affairs, but they are few and far between. The rest of America is into hokey "symbols" of patriotism - slapping a magnetic "Support the Troops" sign on their SUV's and can't even see the hypocrisy in that. If you ask them what they actually DO to support the troops they can't even articulate it. Extreme consumerism has corrupted our country.

8. Doesn't even make the national news anymore
Will we even hear about fatality number 1,300? Or number 1,500? Or do the national media only get jazzed for big, round numbers like 2,000? Will they get all worked up for number 3,000, or decide to hold off until number 10,000 because it's all just too depressing to contemplate?

9. update link: Three American soldiers, seven Iraqis killed
Three American soldiers were killed in two separate attacks and a car bomb exploded Monday at a police checkpoint in western Iraq, killing seven government security force members and injuring nine in the latest strike against the country's fledgling police and National Guard troops.

~snip~

Elsewhere, gunmen stormed a police station west of the city of Samarra late Sunday, a spokesman said. The attackers, who faced no opposition, looted the armory and commandeered several police cars before leaving the area.

U.S. troops arrived at the station Monday morning and arrested two dozen people, the policeman said.

In Basra, British and Iraqi troops were deployed around the headquarters of the Iraqi National Guard southern regional headquarters after the chief staff, Brig. Gen. Diaa al-Kadhimi, refused to accept an order from Baghdad to remove himself from his post, Iraqi officials said.

10. They arrested TWO dozen people?
Isn't that twice the usual number of suspects?

I remember seeing a report last week from the Glorious Quelling of Fallujah that our star-spangled, freckle-faced, faultless boys and girls in uniform had captured several weapons caches from the insurgents, proudly showing off a bunch of dusty, sandy weaponry. I hope the looting of the Samarra armory didn't result in the replacement of those rather useless-looking armaments with something a little more efficacious.
