Colombia Backs Off Bush Death Plot Claim

ANDREW SELSKY
Associated Press

BOGOTA, Colombia - Colombia's government on Monday backpedalled on a sensational claim made by the defense minister that Marxist rebels wanted to assassinate President Bush during a recent state visit. Defense Minister Jorge Uribe told reporters Friday that informants said the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, instructed followers to "assassinate President Bush" during his visit in the seaside city of Cartagena Nov. 22, where he met with President Alvaro Uribe.

The defense minister, who is no relation to the president, did not say where the information came from, and there was no indication Bush's life was ever in any danger: He was protected by 15,000 Colombian troops and police, U.S. troops and Secret Service agents during his 3 1/2-hour visit to Colombia. Interior and Justice Minister Sabas Pretelt played down the comments Monday, saying he had no information about any assassination plot against Bush.

"There is nothing specific," Pretelt told The Associated Press. "What these terrorists organizations normally try to do is disturb the visits of any head of state ... like President Bush. But we took all (security) measures, and there was no disturbance."

The defense minister told reporters Monday he did not want to elaborate on his earlier comments, but his spokeswoman indicated he had either misspoken or been misunderstood.

3. "15,000 Colombian troops and police"
plus U.S. troops and the secret service. The guy's got quite an entourage, probably the biggest audience he's ever had. One would think that God would provide a curtain of protection for His chosen one.

7. How many troops did
we send into Afghanistan? 11,000?!? Am I correct?!? So...we need more people to protect one man for 3 1/2 hours than we needed people to go after bin Laden? Wow.

10. Why don't they just burn the Reichstag and get it over with?
Seriously, it's tiresome the way they fniff-fnuff around with their fearmongering attempts at justifying full-on dictatorship. I'm surprised they haven't already likkered up Russ Feingold, put a gun in his hand, and planted him in some bathroom in the White House with a pocketful of lefty pamphlets. Good thing for us these guys are a bunch of lame-ass would-be monarchists; if they focused their evil, we could be in a real pickle.

12. Remember the other lies the WH has fed us?
Am I the only one that remember not just the BIG lies, but the PETTY little lies that the White House (read Karl Rove) has been feeding the media for the last four years? These petty lies are aimed always to aggrandize the figure of Bush and to rewrite history to make it all seem like a Hollywood movie.

Let me list a few:

- Bush didn't run to Nebraska on 9/11, he wanted to go back to the WH, but the secret service didn't let him.

- The WH was a specific target in 9/11.

- Bush can run 6 miles in a record time for his age.

- Bush "chocked on a pretzel and fell" (yeah right)

- Bush himself landed to the fighter in his way to the Mission Accomplished photo-op.

- Soldiers said "George Bush sends his regards" to Saddam Hussein when they discovered him in his hidey-hole.

- Clinton staffers trashed the WH upon departure.

There are so many it's difficult to keep track of them. Lies, lies, lies.

14. Am I the only one who cheered when they heard that?
"Clinton staffers trashed the WH upon departure."

I remember hearing about that and about how they took the W keys off the keyboards when they left office. I loved it. It made my week when I heard that come out.

They never trashed the WH. And I find it very strage you would "cheer" such a thing, really, "Rush."

18. to Julius Civitatus
First of all, the Rush in my name does not stand for that right wing douche bag, it stands for my last name. Secondly, I laughed when I heard that they pulled the keys off because I hated the fact that bush got in in the WH, and it would be a funny office prank type thing to do assuming your job was just stolen from you.

16. More petty lies from the WH
Someone pointed to me additional petty lies from the WH:

- The fake poem Bush supposedly wrote Laura, but turned out that he didn't.

- The encounter with the British Air Force during the clandestine Thanksgiving trip to Iraq. ("Did I just see Air Force One fly by?")Officials from the BAF came out to deny such fantasy story.

- The assertion Bush prefers his philly-steaks "whiz with".

It is as if Karl Rove is constantly trying to create a Myth around the Chimp. This is the bunch that constantly trashed Al Gore for "embellishing his resume." These fuckers are embellishing his entire life!

20. Remember when the British almost spoiled his surprise visit to Iraq?
The one where they said bush*s plane had been spotted by the RAF. Then it was a commercial jet, I believe. Then when the truth came out, it was all bushit.

Better title for this story)
