13 US marines wounded in mortar attack south of Baghdad
http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?ID=34518

~snip~
BAGHDAD, Nov 29 (AFP) - Thirteen US marines and two civilians were wounded Monday when mortar shells struck a military base south of Baghdad, a marine spokesman said.

The spokesman could not immediately reveal further details on the location or the circumstances of the attack.

On November 23, US marines backed by British and Iraqi forces, launched a vast sweep of the lawless area south of Baghdad which had become known as the "death triangle".

Two marines and at least three rebels were killed on Sunday in Operation Plymouth Rock, during which more than 180 suspected insurgents have been captured so far.

1. I think this confirms that the few dead-enders are getting desperate
At least that is what Rumsfeld keeps telling me. Oh, almost forgot. They hate us for our freedoms too.

4. Hey, I hate us for our freedoms, too...
Freedom to subjugate anyone we please
Freedom to kill at will.
Freedom from the need to justify our actions.
Freedom to steal other peoples' resources.
Freedom to make bizarre and sweeping pronouncements about alleged supreme beings.
Freedom from dissent.
Freedumb; ya gotta love it.

(Actually, they hate us for our libertines, but the ruling tightasses hate them, too...)

5. This story could really be telling...
.. us a lot more than it intends.

13 wounded from one mortar attack is a LOT of wounded. Usually, when everybody hears the first incoming (or the first round leaving the tube) everybody scrambles for cover.

Could the Freedom Fighters/Terraists learning curve be getting steeper? Could they be dropping a couple of rounds from several tubes all at once onto a rich target, then beating feet before counterbattery blows their shit away?

Nice to know we're helping to train the Iraqis... just too bad it's the wrong ones.

6. Who comes up with these names?
Operation Plymouth Rock? Wasn't that where the Pilgrims (a fundamentalist Christian sect, if I recall) landed in America and helped to establish European superiority, eventually occupying the continent and exterminating a large percentage of the natives in the process. If the U.S. is serious about winning hearts and minds, what kind of public relations is that?

13. Accurate mortar fire is not easy to obtain....
These "dead-enders" are dead-on with their hit and run mortar attacks. Perhaps they have VC advisors?

15. Sounds like ...
someone on the inside was pacing the compound, doesn't it? Amazing what accurate measurements can be obtained from a steady pace.

17. Americans are kept in the dark
Its as though this war isn't even happening.

Nothing to see here Folks-Move On.

While our soldiers are dying and being maimed and wounded on a daily basis.
Shame on this President and his criminal cronies for denying these soldiers the respect they deserve.
