Correction: Texas Exit Poll Glance (Texas exit polls get corrected)

n the Nov. 3 BC-ELN--Texas Glance and BC-TX Exit-Poll Excerpts, The Associated Press overstated President Bush's support among Texas Hispanics. Under a post-election adjustment by exit poll providers Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International, 49 percent of Hispanics in the state voted for Bush, not a majority. The revised result does not differ to a statistically significant degree from Bush's 43 percent support among Texas Hispanics in a 2000 exit poll.

The revised BC-TX-Exit-Poll Excerpts showed that 20 percent, not 23 percent, of all Texas voters were Hispanic. They voted 50 percent for Kerry and 49 percent for Bush, not 41-59 Kerry-Bush.

The previous numbers were quite ludicrous. I'm still not sure about the 49% number, but at least it's not outright laughable like the old 59% number was.

2. Yet look at all the news reports about bad Hispanic numbers for Kerry.

And when an Hispanic company suspected disinformation they did their own poll and discovered the original polls were bullshit, Kerry had 65% of that vote nationally.

More ways the media spins the news against the Dems. We had 2 weeks of dumping on Kerry for those bogus numbers.

One thing we have to accept is that the Hispanic vote is slipping away from us over time. Even if we adjust these numbers to what was a more likely scenario, we used to win 70%+ of the Hispanic vote. We need to examine this carefully.

When you look at the map of TX, far south TX went quite blue. A glorious shade of blue. Now people in TX call that area North Mexico. I visited there and I gotta tell you - not a lot of English being spoken and not a lot of white faces.

I seriously doubt bush got that much of the hispanic vote. I know that they are "slipping away" but not to that point.
