More British troops could be sent to US-run zone in Iraq if needed
LONDON (AFP) - More British troops could be sent to US-controlled areas in Iraq (news - web sites) if needed, the second in command of British forces in Iraq, General Bill Rollo, said.

"If we're asked to do it again and the situation makes sense, then clearly we're capable of doing it again," General Rollo told the BBC, referring to the redeployment of Britain's Black Watch regiment to a US-run sector south of Baghdad in late October at the request of US commanders ahead of an assault on insurgent-held Fallujah.

The 850 troops had moved from their previous base in the relative calm of southern Iraq around the city of Basra.

"I think it's a fantasy to think that we can sit in one corner of Iraq and think that that will decide the campaign," he added in the interview at Camp Dogwood, the British base southwest of Baghdad.
