Bush Shifts War Rationale From Iraqi Weapons Of Mass Destruction

WASHINGTON - President Bush has changed his public rationale for the increasingly costly American military effort in Iraq. The once-heralded search for weapons of mass destruction is now little more than a footnote as Bush recasts Iraq into Ground Zero in a broader war against terrorism.

So downgraded has the hunt for such weapons become that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said he didn't even bring it up when he met in Baghdad on Saturday with David Kay, the CIA adviser heading the search.

"I'm assuming he'd tell me if he'd gotten something," Rumsfeld told reporters traveling with him on Monday.

Saddam Hussein's arsenal isn't the only item dropped from the administration's rhetoric. Also gone are the early assurances that, unlike barren Afghanistan, Iraq could easily finance its own reconstruction from oil revenues.

The Vast Liberal Conspiracy is Real, while the vast right-wing conspiracy is not even possible.

It's just not possible for conservatives to have a conspiracy; really The Clinton War's, David Brock's spilling the beans, the PNAC.

We don't like GW, so we'll make up a story to make him look bad!!!!

Then the repugs call shennangins on the left, "Stop hurting GW's feelings, your so mean!!!"

They cry, and we laugh. Such a great liberal lefty strategy that would be.

4. And the amazing thing is that they report this with a straight face
I mean, I know the irony is blatantly obvious, but never say the press is never guilty of stating the obvious. So, why don't they state the obvious in this case? You don't change your rationale after the fact. In most circles, that is known as lying.

geez. :eyes:

6. lightbulb goes on
hmmmm--I think changing the rhetoric (otherwise known as his umteenth fucking excuse for the war)indicates that not just the WMD thing isn't ringing with the public, but they must have determined that the "cry for the downtroddened, totured people of Iraq" and the "brutality of Saddam which is enough of a reason to go there", blah, blah, ain't playin' good in Peoria, either. Guess if we don't buy this latest explanation, he's just gonna have to blow some more of us up to get it through our heads. These people are perverts.

7. I just spent the weekend out
mingling with the public (well that's what I do occasionally) and there is a definite shift from even 3 months ago in the public attitude toward *'s cabal - people are not liking him, his war, his economic policies - they are (and these were folks that basically argued with me months ago) telling me what a liar and creep he was - how they wondered when the rest of the country (I thought that was them) would wake up and see that the "emporer had no clothes" and were wondering what the hell was actually going on - needless to say, I gave lots of information out - and think that there will be much more of this in the coming months ...

beware the awakening of the American public - they will be calling for his head in the next elections (if not before)

feeling that things are looking up (at least we are not so alone as we have been) and being optimistic for the first time in months

8. it will be forgotten
absolutely, I agree. I predict we will also hand over the 87 billion without much of a wimper- There is nothing he will not do, nothing he will not lie about, nothing--he is the most despicable person that has ever sat in that oval office--no morals, no ethics, no brains, no accomplishments in three years but a treasonous crime against his own people by lying to them about killing people in their name,--the murder of thousands of innocent people on a big fat lie. He is despicable, filthy, corrupt and criminal.
