Protesters in Canada Express Anger at Bush
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041201/ap_on_re_ca/bush_canada_protests_1

--Snip--

Making his first official visit to Canada, Bush was greeted by many placards and signs along his motorcade route to a meeting with Prime Minister Paul Martin, including a truck that was emblazoned with the phrase "Bush is a war criminal."

Much the anger seemed focused on the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The Canadian government decided against sending troops to Iraq — a position that strained U.S.-Canadian ties but drew overwhelming support from Canadians.

1. I just saw a bit on the news where Junior thanked those Canadians
who greeted him with "all five fingers". I reckon there were a few who only used one. Heehee.

I'm glad he was finally told the truth by our librul Canadian friends.

:hi:

33. Bush has seen protesters
here in Portland!! So did Poppy Bush. Poppy called Portland "Little Beriut".. Cheney's last visit here, he wouldn't leave the airport. And now Bush will only go into outer cities for his "invitation only" speaches. We made it loud and clear here in Portland that we didn't want Bush in our city.

I do love canada. There is just nothinig to not love about Canada. It's got natural beauty, art, and best of all liberals who are anything but dull and let their voices be heard through protest. :hippie:

On a related topic-did anyone see the daily show last night, they had this funny thing on conservatives from canada and a conservative from the US who didn't want to let them in? :)

20. You are so right.
Did you catch the little smirk when he thanked those who waved at him with all five fingers? It's funny when you go to a foreign country and people flip you off! It's funny because they hate you but you have four more years of power and there's nothing they can do about it. It's funny because you know if you really wanted to you could pick out any person who is flipping you off and destroy their lives. Funny, funny, funny.

This is the kind of stuff I end up yelling at the TV.

21. D'accord!
Watching their protest last night,on CNN International, gave me goosebumps. Made me think, wouldn't it be great if the Canadian MSM would get behind us since our own won't? Imagine, interviews with election workers and disenfranchised voters in Florida and Ohio, unbiased coverage of the small but passionate protests happening here... We could stop watching all the US MSM news channels, and stick to Canadian news and C-Span (less commercials too)

22. Thank you
Thank you, Freedom Spirit and everyone else here. Many Canadians are stunned that Bush is back in power, and proud that our former Prime Minister had the backbone to keep us out of the war with Iraq. I applaud everyone's efforts on DU.

To see how Canadians really feel, search the archives at www.TheStar.com

From this morning's paper:

OTTAWA—George W. Bush has further fuelled a Canadian controversy with an aggressive pitch for Ottawa's participation in a continental ballistic missile defence program, something Prime Minister Paul Martin had sought to avoid during the U.S. president's first visit to the nation's capital...

Bush surprised Martin and Canadian officials by raising the missile defence plan — something not on the official agenda...

"We talked about the future of NORAD and how that organization can best meet emerging threats and safeguard our continent against attack from ballistic missiles," Bush said, as Martin stood silently beside him and thousands protested Bush's visit outside the building.

Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 09:52 AM by Elruin
You are most welcome! :)

Our "Conservative" party at its worst, is like a democrat in Virginia. We are so lucky to have knowledgable, and truly "Compassionate" leaders who would rather make sure a homeless person in Toronto can get free healthcare, than bring diplomacy to Iraq.

We have never hated Americans, we hate arrogance, ignorance, and self-righteousness. That's not what our country was founded upon, and definately not what America was founded upon.

May God, or whoever you may or may not want to believe in, show mercy and peace upon all citizens of America and of the entire world.

Thank you for your time,

-Elruin

P.S. Everyone from DU is still invited to move up here permanently. We'll find you a modest paying job with great benefits and good insulation in your homes and jackets.

Hi all,

I wrote that because I don't remember which network I
was watching (live near Geneva, get TSR1 (Swiss) and
the French State chains: TF1, F2, F3...) two nights back.

But one of them showed a huge sign that said
"Bush! GO HOME MOTHERFUCKER"

I was happy to see that! Next time I'll try and pull
a digi-photo off the screen...

Ciao,
Drew

51. Ottawa thanks you...
for all the encouraging posts. I've been lurking about DU throughout the election and aftermath, wanting to post but not sure if I should -- being from Canada. I was in Ottawa for the protests and it was so incredible to see families and elderly folks marching alongside college students. A truly inclusive event!

Just wanted to say that while everyone wanted Mr. Bush to know we disagree with the administration's policies and decisions, we appreciate and respect the people of the US. I lived in the States for three years and built a lot of friendships. Remember, when the struggle to have your voice heard leaves you a little frazzled and exhausted, come on up for a good long visit. Or come up to stay!
