Activists crash tribute to LePore at election supervisors meeting
Even as colleagues tearfully eulogized her controversial tenure as Palm Beach County's election supervisor, Theresa LePore had to fend off verbal attacks by critics who crashed the surprise tribute.

Speaker after speaker, many choked with emotion, heaped praise on LePore at a meeting of county supervisors at an Orlando hotel on Tuesday. Suddenly, two women and a man, one with a handheld video camera, burst in through an exit door in the back of the room and stomped onto the podium.

One woman, identified as Bev Harris of Black Box Voting by several supervisors, announced she was "serving" LePore with papers regarding a dispute with her office over public records.

As the crowd realized the drama was real, not part of a farewell skit as some first thought, the supervisors booed and screamed as a woman with a video camera panned the room.

"Cowles said that for LePore to reach a full 30 years of service with Palm Beach County and get full retirement benefits, she would go to work at the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office for six months as an election fraud investigator."

2. Kudosfor Bev Harris, boo for LePore
Having LePore work as an election fraud supervisor is like making John Gotti the head of the FBI.

13. Well, then WHEN was she working for Adnan Khashoggi? Seems to me
that it's a bit odd that she would have been working as a "stewardess" for his private plane while he was doing arms deals with Poppy Bush and terrorists, AND was employed with Palm Beach County during that same time.

4. It looks like Theresa LaPore gets a dream position. . .
. . .<snip from same article>

Kind of like having the fox guard the chickens in the hen house!

11. I love the verbs they used to make Bev and Crew
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 12:27 PM by Pepper32
...appear unruly :eyes:

Like they "burst" through the door, I prefer stormed.

And they "stomped" onto the podium, I prefer rushed.

I guess I just prefer the way Bev described ENTIRE event...

I hope T. Lepore's legs curls up like the witch on the Wizard of OZ. :nuke:

stuff.

Firstly, online voting has the exact same problem that electronic ballot voting has: the electronic "ballots" can be too easily changed by hacking the system or by putting a "fix" in the code.

Secondly, I like that he's talking in terms of paper ballots. I also like that he doesn't sound like a hardheaded radical to the other election folks in the state, since he needs to talk to them and help get them to switch from unsecure voting methods.

Thirdly, he needs to make sure that there is enough voting equipment at the polls he is responsible for to prevent a line that requires more than a 5 - 10 min wait during the busiest hours and dates.

Fourthly, he needs to make sure that the printers are printing out BALLOTS, and those voter-verifiable BALLOTS are COUNTED, rather than some 1s and 0s inside of that very unsecure and hackable voting booth/computer. (Note, that the ballots themselves can - and he'll probably want to - be counted exactly as punchcard ballots or optical scan ballots.)
