MoveOn.org Moves on to New Battles
SAN FRANCISCO - After President Bush (news - web sites) won re-election, many political observers expected MoveOn.org to move into retreat. The sentiment surrounding the liberal online powerhouse was neatly summed up by the satire publication The Onion in its spoof headline: "MoveOn CurlsUp InCorner."

But on a Sunday night just two weeks after the Nov. 2 election, the group was back — hosting 1,600 house parties across the country where some 18,000 members gathered to vent and vote on how MoveOn should refocus after such a decisive Republican victory.

"With 56 million people not signed up to the Bush agenda and the Democratic establishment in exile, people are looking for ways to move in another direction," said MoveOn founder Wes Boyd. "In the current circumstances, we are more needed than ever."

3. I am sure they are paid well.
They work hard for it. Being paid by a 527(c)3 is not dishonorable.

7. They bought those ads, for one thing.
Those aren't cheap at all.

That's the rotten thing about policital donations: half the time your guy doesn't win and you feel like you wasted your money. All that dough I gave to Howard Dean! Argh! I'm glad I did though.

Just think of the bigger picture: you were part of a movement and got people thinking.

9. Move on did a great job here in Pa
those folks worked really hard. I did some volunteering. Your money and the money I sent seemed to be well spent here.

5. I was at one of those house parties...
and the overwhelming sense there (and with all the house parties via the internet connection) was that voter fraud and voter suppression were the major things that we wanted MoveOn to tackle.

There was also a lot of talk about improving the Democratic message and media reform, which is pretty much business as usual for MoveOn.

I hope they were listening to us.

12. You can locate the info you want at www.irs.gov
,...since you obviously have a need to vent your anger about your money I strongly recommend you channel your anger by taking the time to view where MoveOn's contributions went.

23. We cannot make any judgments..
...about anything or anyone involved in the 2004 election campaign until we know who won.

I suggest that bloggers who want to criticize MoveOn, the Kerry-Edwards campaign, or anyone else, first get thoroughly informed about the evidence for Bush Inc. election fraud.

Here's for starters:

(detailed info, analysis, discussion of everything - takes patience - see 2004 Election forum:) http://www.democraticunderground.com

(Expert report establishing that some 200,000-plus votes for Bush in three big FLA Democratic counties were phantom votes for Bush or votes stolen from Kerry:)

(The Berkeley report:) http://ucdata.berkeley.edu/ (scroll down to "Voting": "The Effects of Electronic Voting Machines...")

(Report on the impossibility of Bush big numbers in the Republican-controlled electronic vote tabulation vs. the absentee ballot vote (30% of the vote) which showed a much closer race--again, votes manufactured for Bush or stolen from Kerry--in NC:)

And some interesting Olberman reportage posted at: http://www.veteransforcommonsense.org/NewsArticle.cfm?ID=2369

There is, in fact, overwhelming evidence that Kerry won this election. The problem is, 1) uninformed people presuming otherwise, on the basis of what the corporate media tells them, and spreading dissension and feelings of powerlessness among those who need to be mobilizing to challenge this election in every way possible; and 2) the corporate media itself which has financial interests in war, tax breaks and deregulation, and which makes "news" into easy "sound bites" in which facts and the truth are not relevant.

You can help solve the first problem, and then together maybe we can solve the second.

27. My main criticism of the over all organization is that they are always
late to the party. The time to tackle election fraud was before the election not weeks after if they do it at all.

Other than that they are a little understaffed and disorganized and hard to work with at times if you are contract labor on their projects but sadly they are one of the best and only games in town.

I introduced one of their project directors to the BBV people and I don't think they followed up with the topic and got the impression they thought it might just be tin foil stuff.

It would be great if they got a little more aggressive and less reluctant to look at what we are up against as a criminal entity rather than a legitimate political organization.

16. Want to be useful? Moveon.org should shake up the Democratic Party
That's the institution which really needs reform: clean out the corporatists, send the fundamentalists like Liebermen packing, develop a more progressive agenda, sell a new future based on economic populism to the sticks.

Wagging a finger at GOP misdeeds is a dead end, my friends. The converted already know it; the lost will never care.

28. I got the impression that the Move On people are star struck by t he party
elite. I don't think they are going to take any stance that is out of line with the "mainstream" Democratic Party. In other words the people with the money.

26. How many other DUers were at the parties.
I attended the party in McKinney, TX.

The real question is, given MoveOn's proven ability to raise money and dump it into its independent campaigns, will the Democratic Party be open to MoveOn's concerns?
