As more US troops go to Iraq, analysts question how long they can keep up
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US plans to boost its force in Iraq (news - web sites) to 150,000 troops for next month's elections raised questions about how far US forces can be stretched to fight an insurgency that shows no sign of retreat, analysts said.

~snip~

"I would say that when the Pentagon says this is a short-term increase in order to help make the elections happen on schedule, they really mean that," said Andrew Bacevich, a retired army colonel and professor at Boston University.

"Having said that, they may find their hopes are dashed if we do have a continuing increase in the level of violence," he said in an interview.

"They're really, it seems to me, at a point where there are no good options. And they really are getting caught in a very tough spot. And events on the battlefield will determine whether or not they can wiggle out of it," he said.

4. There is a good option, declare victory and bring all the troops home
Hell we can use Fox and CNN to announce that we won the war and bring all the troops home. The only problem is that the rich may not get anymore money from Iraq's oil.

5. THAT is SO 70's it just might work.
this Administration is lost in nostalgia for their early post college work experiences...

They KNOW this worked for Nixon, and they realize that Kerry WOULD HAVE used it had he been elected.

SO...Have a friggin election, call it a democracy, and let's go beat the ever lovin PIS* outta someone else with a name within one letter of Ira"Q"

7. Here,...have a lap blanket,...while I warm you up to being drafted.
Who cares that Bush & Co said it'll never happen.

UBL is in Iran
WMDs are in Iran
Terrorists are supported in Iran
Let Freedom Ring Across the (middle eastern Land)

And watch the blood and oil flow
For those imperialists who exclaim, "not so!"
While their cronies put on a show
For "free marketeering" doncha' know
Pretending corporatism was not the goal
Of the worst fascists not long ago
And "christians", again, are the "hos"
With thought being that"will" they forego
In a world history filled with woes
Due to the mania of greedy egos.

*ahem*

Please forgive me. When I start feeling cathartic,...I get poetic.

10. "no sign of retreat"??? To where? The grave?
It's a total clusterf*ck from the outset! 70% unemployment. The destruction of the infrastructructure. Few families without innocent dead and injured. No recourse. No compensation. Their nation is being raped and pillaged and taken over by foreign interests - interests not even having a cultural or religious commonality.

"retreat"??? What a fucking insane notion!

13. Oh, maybe until Jan. 30, or ...
until there is a draft, or until the U.S. loses -- whichever comes first.
