Miami Herald hand recount of 3 Florida counties indicates signficant Kerry
The Miami Herald did a hand recount of 3 Florida counties. 3 of the 29 counties which have a majority of voters registered as Democrats but voted overwhelmingly for Bush.

Here are the tallies for Union County:

Bush original: 33967 Bush hand count: 3393 (-3)
Kerry original: 1251 Kerry hand count: 1272 (+21)
Net change: Kerry +24

Here are the tallies for Lafayette County:

Bush original: 2460 Bush hand count: 2452 (-8)
Kerry original: 845 Kerry hand count: 848 (+3)
Net change: Kerry +11

It's a bit more complicated for the third county they looked at, Suwannee County, because they only report the totals for a hand count of "almost 60%" of the ballots. Here is the result of their 60% hand count:

9. That's not what the article concludes.
What is needed is a statewide recount.

2. so where's the recount effort??
Wouldn't this be enough to prick the ears of the Kerry campaign?? With so many electronic votes though, I suppose unless there is hard evidence of fraud, it wouldn't work...

3. Where is Kerry and the Democrats?
With all his surplus in his campaign and with all the access the Dmes have to money at a national level, ... how come it was the tiny Green Party who had to raise the money for Ohio's recount?

I guess Kerry and the Dem Party is not really interested in assuring that all the votes are counted (and counted accurately). What a hypocrite.

4. Unless there are 300,000 counties in FL I'd not use "signficant"
to describe a few dozen votes in three counties.

10,000,000,000 is a big number too except when you are counting atoms in an ocean of doubt.

5. He still lost
I'm still crushed. But a few dozen votes in a 3 counties does not indicate that it can overturn a margin of over 300,000 votes. This is not the same as 538.

6. There is something to this - there is more in the election forum
If you read the whole article (and related threads) you see that Kerry picked up over 3% from pre-recount to post-recount in the county that they stopped re-counting at 60% of the polls (Suwanee). So, this could indicate a substantial change in votes. In the other two counties, Bush only lost about .15% and .35% of the total vote from pre to post recount.

The question is, why did they stop counting in the one county where there looked to be a big effect? It looks to me like somebody wanted to bury a result when it was not going the way they wanted. There should be a complete recount done in this county to establish the facts.

7. We need to recount the entire state.
We can't make the mistake that Gore did in only asking for select counties to be recounted. We need to recount them all.

8. details on the Miami Herald "recount" are on DU showing this is bullshit
they picked the most GOP area as to voting and limited the recount within that area so as to show no change.

Proves nothing other than the distance the media will go to prove that a Bush fraud should be ignored is without much of a limit.
