Activists wine and dine on principle alone (Italy)
http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/story.jsp?story=588818

Italian anti-globalisation activists helped themselves to a gourmet meal, leaving nothing but a thank you note telling the restaurant owner he was the victim of "collateral damage" in their fight against war and poverty.

...

The restaurant was chosen because it had hosted delegates at a Nato conference last month. "Consider this 'collateral damage', as Bush would say as children die in bombing raids," the letter said.

A thousand people from the group invaded a supermarket in Rome last month, taking goods without paying

1. A lot of Italians understand
I am in Monza, Italy this week and was very impressed by a large demonstration that paraded by my hotel two mornings ago. It was led by a group playing Pink Floyd's "Money" and took over 20 minutes to pass by. People of all ages and kinds. What were they demonstrating for? They were upset that the government was proposing lowering taxes. Of course the prime beneficiary of that action would be the wealthy but these people would also pay less. Their point was that it would lead to a reduction in social assistance to the poor.

When will we see street demonstrations in the US against tax cuts?
