US Republican Party denies it's outsourcing to India
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 03:45 AM by WillyT
<snip>

The Republican National Committee, according to worldnetdaily.com has described a story in the Delhi Business Standard as a "pernicious rumor" and also claimed representatives of the other party with a quadruped icon were "gobbling up" and "running with" the story on its campaign trail.

And...

The US version of democracy requires that political parties there submit reports to an auditing committee and there are no records of funds going India's way.

However, the Republican rep said that "some other" Republican entity or "conservative organization" might be using Indian call centres.

<snip>

Yeah... Riiiigghhhhtttt!!!!!

9. Criticising outsourcing to India is hardly "India bashing"....
As someone who just watched approximately 500 living wage jobs at my company lost forever due to outsourcing to India, I think I am fair about it. Do I blame the workers in India? No.

I blame greedy rich scumbags in corporate who learned that they could export certain jobs to India and pay people pennies on the dollar for what they pay here.

If that's "India bashing" then so be it.

10. I called AOL last night about problem I have with 9.0..
and found out I was talking to a dude in India about DSL hassles in Washington, D.C. I Don't about the GOP -- I never call them -- but AMERICA ONLINE is all about India-based call centers.

12. As is Microsoft.
But don't let anyone tell you there isn't a communication barrier.

There is. This may or may not get better over time, but the ones replacing my job and my colleagues jobs aren't even close to that. I suppose they will get better over time, but at this point, many of the people I am speaking with in India aren't understanding about half of what I say (and I have no regional accent to speak of).

17. International slumlord-ism
...permits large investors to get richer off ultra-low wages and the 'freedom' not to be concerned about the well-being of those distant employees.

It is about an investor class making themselves unaccountable to the public. The Indian legislature can't reach them here, the way our legislature can.

And these corporations (US, Europe) will use this labor shell-game to bar India-based companies from gaining entry to the market themselves.

Imagine if GM and Ford moved half their operations to Japan in the 60s, and Toyota and Honda never had a chance to compete. Cars today would suck in a big way (the way software does) and the Japanese would be paupers.

I don't begrudge Indians at all for grabbing onto opportunities. But the powers in the US deny fair international trade and keep migrant workers from demanding anything at all (as H1-Bs, instead of Green cards); ask yourself why these masters won't allow their new labor pool the ability to quit and find another job.

The arrangement drags everyone that much closer to 3rd world conditions.

8. Let's Bash Some ...
<BitterIrony = WARNING: The following post contains potentially offensive humor usually employed by stand-up comedians and right-wing columnists who style themselves as Dangerous Thinkers. Since the person posting is neither Dangerous nor a Thinker, he will assume no liability for anything. Kinda like Geroge Bush.>

As a marginally-employed computer programmer who lost not one, but four "contracts" (i.e., jobs) to India via outsourcing (and one to Bulgaria), we could start bashing the Indians right about now.

OR, we could bash the bastards who actually are responsible -- the corporate pirates who get their legal kicks out of suing teenagers, "obsoleteing" their parents, and forcing an entire vital sector of the American workforce into the poorhouse.

That's what I'd rather do.

This is America, dammit. We aren't so gauche as to bash Indians -- unless they're our native (or "heap-big-politically-correct-um") Indians. We also bash Blacks and Hispanics and Gays and Muslims. Even if they're Republicans, sometimes.

"Sujan" ... ? What kind of moniker is that for an American?
From now on, you're
Mordechai McSujanellini.

7. Oh, no, it's not the national GOP...
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 05:07 AM by Why
...it's the American GOP. They have the designated hitter, but it's still baseball (sorta).

This is an Asian high-tech news site, sort of like ZD-Net. Their only cited source is WND, which is maybe one rung higher than Weekly World News, IMO.

11. FYI - The Sierra Club is using Indian call centers for new memberships
I called the 1-800 the other night and was passed off to three different Indian phone reps while inquiring about membership. Not one was able to answer my questions and finally referred me to the toll number in SF to have my questions answered.

I thought it was an interesting experience.
