U.S. Lawmaker Scolds China Over World Conflicts (Henry Hyde)
HONG KONG (Reuters) - An influential U.S. lawmaker has accused China of impeding progress in resolving the world's most pressing conflicts, such as the nuclear disputes with North Korea and Iran.

Henry Hyde, the long-serving chairman of the House of Representatives International Relations Committee and a veteran China critic, also backed calls for a referendum in Hong Kong to support the movement toward full democracy.

He made the comments on Thursday during a visit to the former British colony that reverted to China in 1997 with promises of a high degree of autonomy. A transcript of the remarks was issued by the U.S. consulate on Friday.

Beijing was not doing enough to help to resolve the world's conflicts and in some cases was obstructing progress, Hyde said.

Replace "China" with "the Bush Administration" (or with "Josh Bolton and the Neo Cons") ... and Hyde might be onto something...

13. sure do

Henry Hyde and Cherie Snodgrass cuddling in a sleazy nightclub stare you in the face just as his hypocrisy stuns you. She had three children and a loving husband. She was young and reckless. He was a tough married predator bent on adding her to his harem

6. It wouldn't surprise me
if this nutcase goes public about how this Iraq mess is somehow China's fault.

When things go bad in the GOP, you either blame the aides, or blame China. Status quo...

They always try to blame Clinton whenever possible.

If they could think of a way, we'd be hearing Bill blamed for the tax-snooping provision that was snuck into the budget instead of the aid right about now.

8. With China holding a whole bunch of the Fed's IOUs, I don't think Hyde's
in any position to scold them for anything.

9. China's in the process of eating our lunch.
They are becoming more of a global player -- an economic superpower -- with each passing day. That'll be one more hallmark of the Bush years: America's loss of pre-eminence, both politically and economically.
