Bush Comments on Thompson Terror Worries (food supply)
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) expressed no alarm Saturday about a warning from his outgoing top health official that the U.S. food supply is vulnerable to terror attacks but would not deny the assessment and assert that the nation's food is safe.

Bush was questioned, after an Oval Office meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, about comments by Health and Human Services (news - web sites) Secretary Tommy Thompson about the vulnerability of the U.S. food supply. Thompson spoke Friday as he announced his coming departure from the Bush administration.

"We're a large country with all kinds of avenues where somebody can inflict harm," Bush said. "We're doing everything we can to protect the American people. There's a lot of work to be done."

Thompson had said he worries "every single night" about a possible terror attack on the food supply, and despite dramatic increases in inspections of food imports, only "a very minute amount" of food is tested at ports and airports.

3. And that's not all the Chimp said either.
As soon as he finished that sentence, he added that he had nominated a great guy, Kitrik (I think his name is) to be Homeland Security Secretary and that we were making progress. I laughed my ass off.

Bush said that the government is doing what it can to safeguard the public from threats, but much work remains.

"We're a large country, with all kinds of avenues where somebody could inflict harm," said Bush, asked about the issue after an Oval Office meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. "We've made a lot of progress in protecting our country, and there's more work to be done, and this administration is committed to doing it."

Health and Human Services (news - web sites) Secretary Tommy Thompson said in a speech Friday announcing his coming departure from the Bush Cabinet that he worries "every single night" about a possible terror attack on the food supply. .....

Putin's silverware disinfected with vodka

NEW DELHI, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The silverware used by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his ongoing visit to India reportedly is being disinfected with copious amounts of vodka.

Russian security sleuths will use the liquor to wash knives and forks to be used by Putin and his wife, Lyudmila, Indo Asian News Service reported, quoting an employee of the Maurya Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi where the Russian leader is staying.

"The silverware was washed with vodka and then dried with a towel," the employee said.

24. As a matter of fact, Bush has used an official food taster in the past.
From an article written during Bush's trip in 2003 to Thailand.
Thai mouse to risk life for Bush in last line of bio-chemical defence

John Aglionby in Bangkok
Saturday October 18, 2003
The Guardian

A humble mouse is to put its life on a plate for US president George Bush this weekend - acting as his official food taster to thwart any attempt at a bio-chemical assasination.

The rodent is one of 10 selected by the authorities in Thailand, where Mr Bush is starting a four-day visit today, and will be served samples of food which the president will eat.

According to Thai officials, the mouse will nibble on Thai dishes and then be observed to see if it drops dead or suffers any ill effects.

12. * is to blame. HE is in power and has the authority and ability.
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 03:27 PM by HypnoToad
He is full of it and I'm angry at the 59 million dunderheads who think he has been doing a good job at homeland security.

Maybe he's good at homerland security, but not homeland security.

All * has done is to cut taxes which in turn caused states to cut funding, with police, fire, and human services all getting slahed in the process.

13. A corporate society is a military society
There is no way we can protect ourselves. We would need millions of police. The only way to be "safe" is to be kind. And since we aren't kind, we can expect trouble. And the only reason we don't have more trouble is because we are surrounded to a large degree by water.

And to top it off, people like Bush profit from terrorism and war. They make money when there is disaster, as evidenced by the increase in fuel prices.

The only answer was one we weren't willing to even entertain. And that was anything but retaliation, after 9/11/01.

I'm just very surprised there hasn't been more terrorism. In fact, there's been almost none. We lose more people to the flu than we lost in the World Trade Center towers.

Right now, we'd be better off in a state of anarchy than what we have.

16. Bush mis-speak

"We're a large country with all kinds of avenues where somebody can inflict harm," Bush said. "We're doing everything we can to protect the American people. There's a lot of work to be done."

Actually, Bush said..."We're a large company...country..."

Very telling isn't it!

17. Well you don't have to worry about them attacking our food supply now.
We thought of it so the terrorist won't waste their time. They attack where you least expect it. Having said that of course if we don't have anyway of protecting our food supply which I believe is the case then they can attack anytime they want to.

26. putting on the tin foil hat
Why did Thompson say it?

To create PR probs for Bush, a final jab for getting bumped off the team?

OR

is there a specific threat being suppressed already that he was indirectly trying to bring to light? Could this be why he lost his job?

Anyone else care to venture a guess?

I'm not generally big into conspiracies but something stinks like biologically contaminated fish here.
