Blair backs UN chief over Iraq oil-for-food scheme
LONDON (AFP) - Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites) expressed support for UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) in the face of calls from a US senator for him to resign over the scandal-plagued UN oil-for-food programme for Iraq (news - web sites

"I believe Kofi Annan is doing a fine job ... often in very difficult circumstances," said Blair at a joint press conference in London with visiting Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

He said criticism of Annan was "unfair," and he was "grateful for his leadership on many occasions".

"I very hope much he is allowed to get on with his job," the prime minister said.

1. Do people know that Annan is married to Raol Wallenberg's niece?
"This is the third time Mr. Annan meets the international NGO whose mission is to convey through educational programs the values of courage and solidarity demonstrated by Wallenberg, as well as by other saviors, during his six months rescue mission in Budapest between 1944 and 1945. Wallenberg saved tens of thousands of people, mostly Jewish, condemned to death by the Nazi regime. He later disappeared after being abducted by the Soviet Army on 17 January 1945. His whereabouts are still unknown."

Haven't heard such a word of discontent from the poodle. And now, THIS. *whew*

Look out below that's all I have to say. If Britain becomes a distant supporter (which will happen and is happening IMO), the USA will be all by themselves!
