Jury Decides Attacks on World Trade Center Were 2 Events

NEW YORK -- The jury in the multibillion dollar insurance case between World Trade Center leaseholder Larry Silverstein and nine of the insurers who provided coverage on the Twin Towers decided Monday that the attacks constituted two occurrences for all nine insurers.

The verdict is a major victory for Mr. Silverstein, who has contended that the attacks were two events entitling him to two payments under his insurance policy. Monday's decision entitles Mr. Silverstein to collect up to an additional $1.1 billion above the $3.55 billion in coverage.

Judge Michael Mukasey thanked the jury for reaching a verdict on a complicated case.

There are the "conspiracy theories" and there are the "coincidence theories"... hard to say which ones have the most credibility. There are SO many coincidences surrounding 9/11 that one has to wonder if a FEW of them can't be chalked up to conspiracies, either of the MIHOP or LIHOP varieties. Then again, if even ONE of the conspiracy theories proves to be true, doesn't that...?

The planes hit the towers within the US. Not only were the hijackers in this country when the acts happened, there seems to be evidence that they had all been within the US for a long time before the attacks took place.

I think the distinction you're trying to draw is, "do you think they were committed by Americans," no? But I don't think this bomb conspiracy theory depends on bomb planters being American citizens, so your question doesn't really make sense.

(And just so that I don't get mixed up with this conspiracy theory, I think the idea that there were bombs isn't based on any reasonable evidence, and I don't understand why people get so fixated on this idea.)

Let's suppose we're making an educated guess, that the 9/11 Twin Towers remains a mystery or secret ... After all, Moussaoui, 35, a French citizen of Moroccan descent, is the only person charged in the United States in connection with the suicide hijack attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, in which nearly 3,000 people died.

I think personally that 9/11 was done by foreign terrorists but you are being ignorant if you think that Americans don't want to hurt this country just as badly.

What about McVeigh and Oklahoma City? He was an American and he killed hundreds of people, had the building been bigger more people would have died at the hands of an American.

Next, I would suggest that you do research on the topic before making accusations and derogatory comments regarding other DU member posts. There are plenty of sites on the web which address all theories on the events that lead up to and on the day of the 9-11 tragedy. Do your homework and don't be so quick to speak out of your butt!

In a September 2002 PBS documentary called 'America Rebuilds,' Silverstein states, in reference to World Trade Center Building 7, "I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, "We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it. And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse."

8. I'm glad to hear this...

insurance companies make real estate developers look like sweet grandmothers, and that's not easy. Silverstein had just leased the buildings not long before the attack. (The property is owned by the NY/NJ Port Authority.)

Having dealt with an insurance company after the place I worked at had an ambulance literally 'lost' after the towers collapsed (it took them days to find the vehicle in the rubble; the EMT had run into the building seconds before it collapsed and died), I'm glad they lost the case. I believe they already ratcheted up business's premiums for 'terrorist acts' post 9-11; let them pay some of it out. Their attitude to us, for a very small dollar claim, was this incredibly smug 'Act of War' refrain, which was what they said in response to anything we said.

Many do not remember that Henry Kissinger was originally slated to be the 9-11 Commission chairman until the public uproar gave cause to head a different way. One of the matters we have turned over to Eliot Spitzer's office is an evidence trail indicating that the insurance on the World Trade Center (WTC) was increased by 300 percent in June and July 2001 and one of the three U.S. named beneficiaries of that windfall is one Henry Kissinger according to the document trail uncovered by an attorney. That may or may not prove out in court, but it is odd that the name surfaces in a possible insurance scam on WTC and he also was the first choice to head the 9-11 Commission supposedly looking into the matter to find the truth.
