Drink Deal Makes New York the Big Snapple (juice for schools)
NEW YORK (Reuters)

New York said on Tuesday it has signed a $166 million deal making Snapple the city's official drink of choice.

The deal will make Snapple the exclusive provider of drinks in the city's 1,200 schools and will also see the company's drinks being sold in parks and other city facilities.

As part of the deal, Snapple will also pitch for the Big Apple, promising that some of its advertising will promote New York to tourists. ---

In keeping with the city's move to make food in its schools healthier, the drinks on offer in vending machines will be 100 percent fruit juice and bottled water.

1. Why stop there?
Can you imagine the rakeoff New York would get for letting them call it Ground NetZero?

2. Whatever happened to drinking milk for lunch?
We always had two choices-milk or chocolate milk. We had a pop machine in high school for a while, but it was removed and we then could choose from milk, chocolate milk or koolaid. I got my pop from the teacher's lounge, basically because the teachers liked me.

Is Snapple pure juice, or is it a fruit drink? If it's the latter, it has about the same nutritional value as Coke.

3. It's fruit drink. hell, they ALL are....
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 03:01 PM by BiggJawn
"100% Fruit Juice*"

"* and non-juice ingredients"

Fortified pear juice from concentrate, so it has high-fructose corn sweetener added, water, pear juice concentrate to make-up 90%, and then maybe 10% "real" cherry or grape or orange juice.

NYC ought to be ashamed of themselves. In a time when school boards are being taken to task for providing a captive morbidly-obese client base for the soda pop industry, all in exchange for new cheerleader skirts, and they do THIS?....

Hell, why don't they let the crack dealers and pot dealers into the schools? I'd bet they'd make a bigger percentage....

This is wrong. Kids should be drinking something healthy. And no caffine, if the teas will be sold.

Nice Snapple site!

I'm not expert. I seems the juices are NOT juices at all but chemical flavors. Yes or No?

(PS. I love Snapple teas! I'm not against Snapple!)

4. Huh, so is Coke illegal on school grounds now?
Or will they just get it from other sources?

Will there be (cough) Coke dealers on the playgrounds?

5. I can't even look at Snapple
without thinking about Rush Limpdick. I don't know if he still pushes that slop, but I know he did for a long time.

At my son's new school, they get 2% white milk or water, period. A child will drink what's available when he's thirsty, and those habits are formed early. My son just this minute polished off 3 glasses of milk because it's all he's had for years. He's been exposed to soda, but will pick milk over soda about 80% of the time. I'm the same way myself!

But more importantly: WHEN ARE WE GOING TO START INVESTING MONEY IN OUR SCHOOLS SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO WHORE THEMSELVES OUT TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER??

Disgusted,

6. Snapple is near the top of the NAACP's list of unfriendlys
They are known for not promoting minorities. And a few years ago one of the labels on their lemon ice tea featured a black man who had been tarred feathered and lynched. After some public out cry they claimed that they never realized what was on the label and they changed it.

11. "a black man who had been tarred feathered and lynched"
Baloney. The argument was that the symbol of a K with a circle around it was repeated 3 times on the label stood for the KKK. It actually is the recognized symbol for kosher. Hard to get further from the truth there.

The label on the ice tea showed the Boston harbor and was supposed to invoke the Boston tea party. It was misconstrued, by people with an ax to grind, to be a slave ship.

If you want to make a baseless claim about the original label, show me a link.

P.S. Churches chicken has an additive that makes people sterile...that is why they are always located in the black communities.....(yet another baseless urban legend).

8. Snapple and Cyst-Boy, very strong connection...
Didn't Jeff Christie once claim that the reason Snapple became such a huge success was because they had the "good sense" to advertise on "Excrement In Broadcastng"?

Long time ago, when I hadn't saw the light, and I, yes friends, *I* listened to Gush Pfleghmball, I drank Snapple. But only when I could aford it, which wasn't very often, because it was the highest-priced pop at the Vee-Pee.

Then I realised that the Cargo Cult wasn't coming to carry me away, the Democrats were NOT the reason I was poor, and I never drank Snapple again. Nor listened to the flaming gasbag.

10. Doesn't Snapple also contribute to anti-abortion groups?
A friend told me this one time. I'm not sure if it's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.

You guys are braver than I. I can't stomach listening to his voice. I NEVER listen so I didn't/don't know about his advertisers.

...the wide mouth comes in handy if you're stuck in rush hour traffic and REALLY have to go. These are important skills that kids need to learn.

Too many other things to drink without patronizing my enemy.

13. Imperial Amerikan-style nazism is so much more FUN
Did the Geramsn have this kind of market-choice?

Did the Germans become branded with such a wonderfully panoptic set of Divine Corporations?

(of course one might add that Hitler never had access to the innovations in psychomanipulation since Grandpa Bush was laundering his stolen Gold Teeth)

Yes, we are going to have MUCH more FUN in Amerika than those stuffy old Nazis did.

They were too serious. Imperial Amerikans are going to snuff out Liberty and have fun doing it!

Full of HFCS--the devil's sweetener. I'm tired of ranting about that stuff on this site. Somebody else do it for me, please.
