Special forces unit at Ft. Carson secretly deployed to Iraq (Green Berets)
http://pm.gazette.com/fullstory.php?id=4129

In a secret deployment over the last few weeks, Fort Carson's 10th Special Forces group has left the post for Iraq, the Army confirmed Monday.

Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., won't say how many soldiers from the 10th Group deployed, but sources have told the Gazette that almost all 1,000 soldiers from the unit are gone.

Other secrets include where in Iraq the unit landed and how long the soldiers will be gone.

<snip>

Unlike other units at Fort Carson that have left and returned with fanfare, the Green Berets have been repeatedly deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in secret.

The 10th Group has expertise in battling guerilla groups and training native forces to protect their own countries.

4. Another example of psyops......
Whether the story is true or not, for some reason, the Pentagon wants people to think that 1,000 Special Forces troops have deployed to Iraq.

5. You are probably right. Make people think there is progress
going on behind the scenes. Not news in my opinion.

6. Most Orwellian part of this article:

(snip)

Gowan said that with the Green Berets off to war, the Army is working to help their families left behind at Fort Carson.

"Families are a priority with the Army Special Forces Command," Gowan said.

Yeah, making Daddy ship out to war right before Christmas. That's putting families first, all right.

7. 1000 Green Beret could be handy before an election
An unscrupulous administration might want to use them to silence political opposition, similar to the Phoenix program in Viet Nam. But Bush would never do that, since he is a good Christian, right?

13. Actually, what is troubling about this...
I didn't read the article, so I don't know if this is mentioned, but the 10th's area of operation is Europe, specifically Eastern Europe. Each SF group has an area of operation (Asia/S. America/Pacific/Middle East/etc), and the soldiers are trained in the languages, customs, and politics of that area. To deploy an SF group outside of its theater is a big UH OH to me. Signals things are more desperate than we're told. I do think it is in advance of the election, but I highly doubt it has anything to do with suppression.

16. That's my cousin's unit
and he spent significant time in Bosnia and Kosovo. He's assured us many times that he won't be going to Iraq because his unit is assigned to the European theater - many years studying language, history, culture, political background etc, of the Balkins and Eastern Europe would be wasted in the middle east.

Crap.
