Iraqi PM says polls could be spread over period
BRUSSELS (AFP) - Iraq (news - web sites)'s elections could be spread out over a period of 15-20 days in late January, interim prime minister Iyad Allawi said in a Belgian newspaper interview.

"Everyone -- Shiites, Sunnis, Christians, Kurds, Turkomans -- should take part in the vote," he was quoted as saying by Tuesday's edition of Le Soir, referring to landmark polls planned for January 30.

"For that I think one could envisage elections spread over 15 days, 20 days, with polling on different dates for different provinces ... That would allow for adequate security arrangements to be put in place," he added.

~snip~

Asked by the French-language newspaper if he was talking about holding elections on different dates depending on each province, Allawi replied: "Exactly.

2. Well yeah.
If the voting booths are set up inside armored personnel carriers it's gonna take a while to get around to everybody's neighborhood. Shucks yeah.

3. From what I heard
on Democracy Now w/ Amy Goodman, things are just a tragic mess over there. Tragic with a capital "T".

Any reports here that things are going well there and Falujah was "successful" may be looked upon as mis/dis-info buy those who understand the media crisis today.

Well, they could have an American-style election, I guess. If the mass media covers,(as in blanket) it right, anything goes. As long as it looks like a fair election in the reporting of it, it can be called a successful vote for Democracy.

5. If my country had been invaded, and the cities under siege
or bombed to hell, if I couldn't feed my family or get medical
attention when needed, why the hell would I risk my life to vote
for a puppet government already chosen by the occupier?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they held an election and nobody came?
