Governors, premiers blast Washington for backing down on emissions

GROTON, Conn. (CP) - The New England governors and eastern Canadian premiers blasted the U.S. government Tuesday for backing down on air pollution controls.

The six governors and the premiers of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia unanimously endorsed a resolution calling on the Bush administration to reconsider new regulations easing restrictions on the nation's most polluting industries.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest accused the U.S. government and its Environmental Protection Agency of backing away from commitments the United States made more than 10 years ago when it signed a clean air treaty with Canada at the height of the acid rain scare.

"Some people thought the battle over acid rain had been won," Charest told the governors and premiers at their annual meeting, which ended Tuesday.

"Well, look again. The battle still rages."
...
Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm said people across Canada and the United States will have to pressure their federal governments to make sure environmental issues are not pushed aside.

Hamm is absolutely correct. It's up to the people.

1. The only Dem Governor in New England...
"Our states are united," said Maine Gov. John Baldacci. "Regardless of parties and provinces, we are all standing together to say this isn't fair."

Thank you, John!!!

"What's a little acid in your rain?
for all you know it might be good for ya--*see EPA report--
(the acid might kill bacteria making it safer to drink)

your just all America haters, you hate us for our freedom.

Now stop crying into your acid filled teacups and embrace the gifts of the free market & no bid contracts.

--oh, and please remember to donate to our "rebuild Iraq" fund,
we are short on cash at the moment and the Iraqi oil revenues are already spoken for, as you know. We are very busy dealing with rebuilding the oil industry part, so we don't have time to deal with the other messy social stuff. Now we know all you social type countries are good at that, so you can deal with that part. I know I can count on you, now pony up."

thank you, G.W
-sarcasm off-
