(Fayetteville, NC) Company hands out pink slips to layoff workers
http://rdu.news14.com/content/your_news/fayetteville/default.asp?ArID=60282

A Fayetteville based humvee repair shop is handing out pink slips to dozens of workers at its plant.

Just months after opening, Lear Seigler Services Incorporated is cutting its workforce in half.

The news came as a surprise to those who are now unemployed.

Envelopes stuffed with letters announcing a layoff wasn't what employees at Lear Seigler were expecting to get for a Christmas bonus this year. They were handed out just hours before the cutbacks began.

<snip>

However, that's one side of the story. News 14 Carolina did try to talk to some of the higher-ups, but they made us leave the property, and gave us no explanation for the layoffs.

3. That's good news
1) It's Jesusland
2) They repair those damn Hummers that get 10 Miles per Gallon

Congrats, Republicans. You got what you voted for.

Merry Christmas and an unemployed New Year!

4. Let's send them Chrismas cards!!
Let's find out who the laid-off workers are, and send them Christmas cards saying something to the effect of, "George Bush is the only Christmas Present you could afford this year."

A tax-cut on a salary they'll never earn. Brilliant.

6. "The news came as a surprise . . ."
I'll just bet it did. Holiday cards to those affected are a nice idea. That liberal social conscience of mine feels very sorry for these folks, in spite of any sneaking suspicions I might have concerning their political affiliations. Those affiliations are changeable, after all.

8. Shock the monkey
Yes, you will hurt their feelings and make them more miserable and angry.

But maybe they will finaly come to their senses.

Even a lab monkey quickly learns which lever gives them food, and which one gives them an electric shock.

Republicans are dumber.

Shock the monkey.

Shock the monkey to life.

My brother is employed by own of the few remaining textile mills around Fayetteville, and they're constantly afraid of losing their jobs.

Voted 100% Bush, of course....

10. Ask me if I care.....
go on - ask me.

Fayetteville, NC is redneck/repug country. I'd love to find a way to shove their faces in this.

Too damned stupid to know that it's because of Bush's policies that they're losing their jobs.

12. Well, they'll have plenty of time to listen now
Especially if we begin preaching the good old progressive, Democratic values of helping the little guy and the poor guy screwed over by the system. You think unemployment compensation was invented by the Repugs? Well, the need for it certainly was!

These folks are fertile ground for a new message, if we have the guts to tell it.

11. Heh, Fayetville, that says enough for me...
Fayettville (or as we call it Fayettnam) is home to a huge military base and one of the most reich-winged areas of NC, next to say the mountains. NC is one of the most moderate of southern states, so Fayetville really sticks out like a sore thumb.

You can be assured that most of them voted R, so I don't give two shits about them.

16. This will REALLY scare you
Lear Seigler Services (a division of the Carlyle Group) is a Defense Contractor. Their Fayetteville-area offices and workspaces are on Fort Bragg and their primary mission is resurrecting shot-up HMMWVs that get shipped back from Iraq and Afghanistan. (Back in the pre-Bush Army, we called this 'third shop.') This is not a company that fixes soccer moms' Hummers; there aren't that many of those in Fayetteville anyway.

I can't figure this one out either. There's certainly no shortage of business. Maybe they're just badly run--or Carlyle's just trying to get cheap on us.

cheap labor repair them there...

This is the cruel economics of a Global Economy....and the people of NC voted for it..

21. Bushslapped
I just cited this story in a new deffinition in Urban Dictionary.

Once it is up, you guys should go vote for it:

Bushslap

When someone realizes that voting Republican has caused them terrible harm.

Workers at Lear Seigler Services Incorporated in North Carolina, a company that repairs huge gas-guzzling Hummers, were just Bushslapped with a massive layoff on the day they were supposed to get Christmas bonuses.

He was a proud Republican, until he was Bushslapped back into the army fifteen years after he'd retired from service.

After her husband was killed in Iraq, she felt Bushslapped when she saw the pResident making a joke about looking for Weapons of Mass Destruction under his office desk.

22. I voted
Excellent word - excellent definition.

Unfortunately, we Kerry workers/supporters/voters are just as likely to get Bushslapped.

26. Well, this is ironic in light of Rummie promising that 400 Hummers
a day are being upgraded for military use. So typical of Republican lack of support for the troops.

27. I think we should try to use this to make a convert or two
I think we should send them some cards expressing our sympathy (and not care how they voted), saying that we voted for Kerry to keep this, among other bad things, from happening to our fellow Americans.
You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Patiod, if your brother will find some names and addresses and you'll PM to me. I'll send some cards. They won't be mean or ugly. Maybe express a little progressive thought, like "Progressives believe that often it is the system itself, not laziness or faults on the part of the employee, that causes people to lose their jobs. That's why we often support programs that help people in time of need."
