No U.S. Casualties in Iraq for 7 Days
Americans Have Not Lost a Soldier in Combat for Seven Days; Britain to Send 1,200 More Troops

The U.S. military has not lost a soldier in combat for seven days, and despite a bomb attack on a convoy in Baghdad Monday, the country has witnessed a rare period of relative calm. Nevertheless, Britain announced plans to send 1,200 more troops to bolster its force in the south.

Also Monday saboteurs hit an oil pipeline 30 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of Kirkuk. The line that had been carrying 35,000 barrels a day from the Jabour oil field to the main pipeline that originates in Kirkuk was shut down.

Adel al-Qazzaz, the director general of the Northern Oil Co., said the saboteurs hit the line at 10:30 a.m. Monday, setting it afire at a value. Huge flames and clouds of smoke rose into the air. Four firefighting teams had the fire under control by nightfall and hoped to have it complete extinguished Tuesday morning.

About 300 yards of the line was damaged. L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. civil administrator for Iraq, has estimated the country is losing $7 million daily because of damage to the major Turkish-bound pipeline that carries oil from the Kirkuk fields to a Mediterranean port for export.

It is not true
There was one reported death on Tuesday, reported in breaking news on this site. I have not seen it reported elsewhere. There was also a car bomb in northern Baghdad reported today. Several wounded but no confirmation yet of soldier casualties.

3. Casualties Yes, KIA No
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 05:59 PM by LoneStarLiberal
American forces have taken casualties which apparently are not important enough to be reported by our media. There haven't been any KIAs, though.

Our forces did have a KIA today, though.

8. Not so sure
I'm more inclined to believe the ME Times since msnbc reported something about casualty counts being classified.

One soldiers death is reported here in some detail:

7. You left out the best part . . .
But street crime, kidnappings and carjackings still bedevil the country and Bush's words and promised spending were no solace to Moataz Charek, a 47-year-old chemical engineer who lost his job after the Americans occupied the country.

"President Bush, with due respect, is lying. He promised freedom. I want to ask him were is my freedom when I don't feel safe leaving the house, when I don't feel my wife is safe when she goes to work, when I don't feel safe sending my children to school," he asked

He promised freedom . . . hehe, yeah, he promised us to be a 'uniter, not a divider.' Get used to it, my friend, because there's a lot more BS from where that came from.

Judith Miller said on Larry King that the wounded numbers ARE being reported. So there.

Judith has special connections, you see.
