Democratic Congressman, Jesse Jackson Vow to Continue Inquiry of Ohio Vote

WASHINGTON Dec 8, 2004 — A Democratic congressman and Jesse Jackson said Wednesday they will continue to investigate complaints of election irregularities in Ohio, but they won't call for a delay in the official certification process.

Ohio officials declared President Bush the winner of the state's 20 electoral votes Monday after the ballot count showed a 118,775-vote lead over Democratic Sen. John Kerry. The Electoral College meeting is scheduled for Monday, despite a recount starting as early as next week.

Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, convened a hearing to examine accusations of voting problems in Ohio. Many of the election complaints, such as disparities in vote totals and a shortage of voting machines in Democratic-leaning urban precincts, have already been cited and explained.

Conyers promised that Democrats on the committee will review each problem even though the Government Accountability Office has said it will study the 2004 election. He plans to hold a session in Columbus, Ohio.

2. They quote GOP officials who are FLAT OUT LYING
The reporters are not doing their jobs. I'm sure Rove is relieved.

They keep quoting Ohio officials who say things were smooth. They rarely give examples from our side. For instance, Republicans once again said there were lines, but the whole country had lines. But did the whole country have lines that lasted 4 - 9 hours???

At Kenyon college, 1300 people voted. Using the formula for divvying out voting machines in Republican precincts, Kenyon should have been allocated 13 machines. Instead, they got two. And one of them broke down for two hours. Do you think it was a coincidence that liberal Kenyon College got the "bad" machine???

The reporters aren't sniffing out the facts.

3. This is really pissing me off! "Many of the election complaints,....
such as disparities in vote totals and a shortage of voting machines in Democratic-leaning urban precincts, have already been cited and explained."

That is a flat out lie! Unless they mean that it has been explained by the public how much deliberate fraud and supression took place in Ohio!

Isn't there any type of legal action that people could take against the media? This is getting pretty bad.

4. Just where do they expect this to go, we lost get over it !
The outcome is not going to change. They just make us look like sore losers. If we ever expect to win a election we should stay as far away from Jesse Jackson, Micheal Moore, Teddy Kennedy and etc. as we can.

5. There may be much more to this than what meets the eye.
For example, an "insider" programmer who was part of a scheme to set up voting machines for purposes of fraud.

Ya' just never know what is beneath the veil of media-produced reality these days.

7. That kind of thinking is exactly what the *wacko adm. wants you to think..
You don't look like sore losers...you look like people who want a fair and balanced voting process and elections!!! The people who you state you should distance yourself from are the very people who are trying to make sure the democracy of America doesn't slip away into oblivion!!

You can't expect to win another election if the Fraud is not stopped!
That is the focus! NO MORE STOLEN ELECTIONS!!!

9. Even Micheal Moore said Bush got more votes on Leno last week.
If we got more popular votes like in 2000 I could see a point in this. The election is not going to be reversed get over it and correct the mistakes made in 2004. The picture of Kerry getting a hug from Teddy was enough to swing the vote to Bush alone. I never thought Kerry had a real chance except for a couple hours on Nov 2nd when they reported he was ahead in the exit polls.

15. Michael M said
Bush "Got" more votes, not "More people voted for him".
You have to read between the lines these days-or else!
Give Michael a break, please.

10. "You can't expect to win another election if the Fraud is not stopped!"
You are absolutely right! If we "play dead and roll over" like people like doc want, we won't get the exposure to get election reform. With no reform, we get 100% HAVA mandated Evoting and no paper trail by 2006. That = no more democracy in the US EVER AGAIN!

You are also correct.....no more play dead and roll over...There is a movement going on..it is starting out small and gonna get big!! I do have faith in the Intelligent people of the US to stand up and say "WE are not gonna take it anymore" I think that the people are starting to say that even louder...how can you let your country fall away..everything America stands for is crumbling and I think the people won't allow that to happen...in the end it may come down to bleeding for your rights and fighting for your life...I hope that America will return to a shinning beacon of Hope,Life and Liberty!!!

12. "They just make us look like sore losers."
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 11:17 AM by JPace
I am a sore loser and don't care being stuck with the label either.
I'm a loser because of voter fraud and voter theft, I'm a loser because my government is owned and operated by religious nuts and big business who will stop at nothing to have their way, including killing democracy at the polls. I'm a loser but I'm not a roll over and take it loser and neither are those at the Conyers hearing. I'm gonna bond and plaster myself to anyone with the courage and celebrity status to help change our broken voting system and I'm gonna do it without shame. The now entrenched system that the repugs have in place is formidable and nothing short of an all out no holds barred fight is going to unentrench them.
"The outcome is not going to change" if we don't get the voting system changed we will NEVER win any meaningful office again in this nation.
P.S. I don't want to "get over it".

11. Bob Ney had an excellent column in the paper a few weeks ago
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 11:12 AM by doc03
about why we lost Ohio. I tried to find a link but couldn't the paper only has a 7 day archive. Basically he said the Democrats out-sourced their local work to organizations such as Move on. org and others instead of DNC getting out and doing it. From what I saw here he was definitely right, when Cabelas in Wheeling opened the Sportsmen for Bush were there registering people. At all the local festivals and other events the Republicans were handing out W04 stickers by the thousands. If the Democrats even had someone there they didn't even have a sticker or any information at all about the national election. To get a yard sign I made three trips to the local Democratic headquarters before they had any, never did find a bumper sticker. I sent the Kerry campaign money on two seperate occations and never got even a thanks just more letters wanting money. Then to top it off they have $15M left over, where's my refund?

8. We can e-mail the Republican Chairman Sensenbrenner @
mail.house.gov and ask him to help Conyers and the others to investigate the election. Even though he is a Republican, he is said to be a fair man. He may listen if he is asked in a respectful manner.
