RESTRICTIONS LIFTED: Wild horse sales plan defended
In Nevada, first the fecked the Western Shoshone, then they fecked the wild horses ...all for the gold mines and the white Republican ranchers, squatting and profitting from public lands. Which state is next? Wyoming, Cheney's stomping grounds!! Oil industry folks!!

Ensign says stopgap measure necessary to help save animals

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said Wednesday that a new law removing restrictions on the sale of wild horses is a "temporary stop gap" until herds can be brought under control.

Ensign, who is a veterinarian, said he reluctantly accepted the sales, even though some of the animals could end up slaughtered.

"Frankly a lot of (wild horses) are starving to death and hurting our ranges," Ensign said. "As a veterinarian, I know there are times when you have to make very difficult choices."

President Bush signed legislation Wednesday directing the Bureau of Land Management to dispose of hard-to-sell wild horses, those over 10 years of age and others who cannot be auctioned after three tries.

1. why do herds have to be "managed"
funny...coyotes aren't "managed"? Oh..that's right..they aren't competing for feed with cattle.

(wild horses) are starving to death and hurting our ranges," ?????

WTF???? seems like oxymoran?

2. Actually, coyotes are managed, sort of...
through liberal bag limits, extended hunting seasons, and more options in the form of harvest. Basically, if you want to kill a yote, knock yourself out. Personally, I couldn't do it, but that's neither here nor there.

3. Coyotes
have been managed although it was most likely not by the government. We have been suffering through years, 10 or more, watching coyotes freeze to death, bloody and bare because ranchers in the states south of us introduced mange into the population. It spread and has been terrible to watch. The last two years I have begun to see the population change to a more healthy one.

4. 2 of the 3 horse slaughterhouses in the US are in TX.
Obviously, *'s TX friends will make money from slaughtering these poor animals. See Practical Horseman magazine for an expose on this awful practice. The terrified horses are clubbed over the head then hung by their back legs and the blood is drained out of their body from the neck. Don't ever sell your horse, pony, mule or donkey at auction. This is where they will end up.
