All the people who reported that Sandy Berger "stuffed documents down his pants" are still on the job, the people who reported the false start of the invasion of Fallujah are still on the job. The people who reported the WMD are still on the job ...
Basically, nobody is expected to get the news right or properly vet it. The only important thing is that you get your approved lies straight from Rove, so long as you do that, you're good.

2. And many Duer's will still believe that Rather was a Rove plant! |
|
The information was true. We all know that! We should have defended Rather and we should defend this woman. We should have a fund for her legal expenses. She fought to tell the truth!

5. Info might have been true, but the memos were fake |
|
The person who gave CBS the memos, Bill Burkett, was asked by the producers to provide the name of his source. He gave the name of a friend of his, who later denied that he had anything to do with the memos. Had Maple simply picked up the phone to check on the source, she would have known that Burkett was not to be trusted. If I were her boss, I couldn't get her out the door fast enough.

6. The documents were forgeries. |

I disagree. We don't all KNOW that. In fact, it is clear to me that the documents were clumsy forgeries. Whether the 'information' is true is hard to say, since the commanding officer is dead, and left no documents. I believe that the officer may have given Bush mediocre or worse reviews, but we don't KNOW that.
Defending Rather (or, really CBS News) is ok, although the CBS statement that they were confident in the 'chain of custody' of the documents was misleading at best. AFAIK, CBS has never known what the chain of custody of the documents was.

who wrote his biography ""A Call To Service"( I think it is called something like that!) It was later, discussed in a Texas paper. It is somewhere in a thread on DU. The commanders secretary said that she did type up a similar document .just not that particular one.She also said that the statements contained in the document were accurate. The signature on the documents was authenticated. I still don't understand how they are forgeries if the signature and content are accurate but they were not typed by the secretary!

8. The documents were not forgeries |
|
This question was hashed out on multiple threads here. (And if we ever get advanced search back, I'll dig them out.)
There is no way the documents could have been produced using a contemporary computer, and they were almost certainly done on a proportion-spacing typewriter of the appropriate period. This is based on both the font and the many tell-tale irregularities.
There's no telling how Burkett actually came by them, and CBS should have been a lot more skeptical of his story. But the documents themselves appear sound.

Not only is this the right-wing NY Post, but it's the gossip column of all things. Who says she's fighting for her job?

10. Academic question..... |
|
did the GOP deny the verasity of the information or just that the documents were forgeries? The situation about Bush's military record has been widely reported going back to when he first ran for Governor.

standard applied to Reprick slime and their critics. If you are a REprick you can start wars, fuck up the planet, fuck over your allies, destroy the economy, steal elections, shirk your duty and call it heroism, etc, and never be held to account. But woe unto the sorry son-of-bitch that calls any of it into question. You better not miss a fucking punctuation mark, or even look cockeyed in front of the fascist protocol police or they will trumpet that thing until they destroy you.Or even if you manage to do it all picture perfect they will manufacture some minor thing to quibble about and turn it into a crime against humanity.
There is a spectre of revolution blowing across this land and it is going to keep building until people realize that we must, physically if we have too, take this country back. These fascist bastards have proven that they will use any device of deception to stay in power and no matter how hard we play the game it is still always a stacked deck steeply in favor of the non-fascists.
The voting situation better be turned around or I feel that is the end. :grr: :grr:
