Ex-Steeler Swann tests gubernatorial waters
When he seeks re-election in 2006, Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell, a rabid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, could be facing a Republican opponent who knows a bit more about pro football than he does -- former Steelers wide receiver Lynn Swann.

Swann this week began calling Republican officials here and elsewhere to let them know of his possible interest in the 2006 GOP gubernatorial race, a contest that already has several well-known Republicans considering a run.

"I got a call from Mr. Swann," state House Majority Leader Sam Smith, R-Punxsutawney, said yesterday. "He told me he was exploring . He made it very clear he hadn't made any commitment yet, but he did want to put feelers out."

Smith said he doesn't know where Swann stands on key issues facing the state, but likes the idea of such a high-profile person expressing interest in the 2006 race.

3. What the h*ll does he know about anything?
What a monstrous ego this guy has -- he's probably hoping to capitalize on capturing the black vote.

Too bad he's an Oreo.

2. I should have pissed on Three Rivers Stadium when I had the chance
Besides Terry Bradshaw, Swan's another good reason now.

Old Cowboy fan here.

4. Gawd, that picture is creepy.
Love the one of Chimpus Khan falling out of the saddle in the first posted reply.

5. Notice anything odd about Republicans today?
They are resorting to "name recogniition" candidates. Football players, baseball players, actors. Anyone with name (TV) recogniition. Public service is no longer needed...or wanted. Because, then they have a record.

This truly bothers me. Who's going to make the policy decisions for Lynn? The corporate backers that are marketing him.

6. Wasn't Swann a wife-abuser? Republican values will never support him.

Oh. Wait. Nevermind.

Edit: Sincerely, nevermind. I was thinking of Jim Brown. :dunce:

7. I don't know anything about Swann's politics, but DON'T put down
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 12:24 AM by napi21
the man! No matter how many great football players come along, there hasn't been a combination like Bradshaw, Stalworth, and Swann since, and I'm not sure there ever will be.

9. are you kidding?
here are a few QB-WR combos that come to mind:
Dolphins: Marino-Duper-Clayton
Rams: Warner-Holt-Bruce (throw in Marshall Faulk while we're at it)
Colts: Manning-Harrison-James
Bills: Kelly-Reed-Lofton

Bradshaw, Stallworth, and, yes, Swann were great players, but even the most casual fan knows the key to the Steeler dynasty in the 70's was the defense.

10. Part;ly the defence, but I can close my eyes and still see
Terry thread the needle and Swann picking that ball out of the air, several feet over his head, and wondering how in the world he ever held onto it. Sure, I remember the Steel Curtain, and I would never put them down.

I think we could see a TEAM like that again...if the players had some loyalty to their team instead of to the almighty dollar!

11. Puh-leeze. Swann changed the way the game is played.
Still the mofo should stay the hell out of politics.

8. Rendell should hire Jack Tatum as a campaign consultant
I bet that ol' Assassin, the great Raider safety, can still make Swann piss his pants.

Far be it for me to question the legitimacy of a Swann candidacy...after all, years of saying "That the story here on the sideline, Keith" on ABC college football is the natural training ground for a gov-to-be! (end sarcasm)

13. Uncle Tom Bettis Too
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 02:23 AM by no_arbusto
I'm a Steelers fan til death (born and raised in SWPA) but I'll never respect Uncle Tom Jerome Bettis. That mother fucker came from Detroit and is now playing in Pittsburgh and he has the fucking audacity to support Bush? Fuck you, fatass!!! You live in a fucking $600,000 home in Gibsonia. That would buy me a fucking 1 bedroom condo in Montgomery County, MD you piece of black trash! And we only make about 90K a year.

It's pretty sad that your claim to fame is "Bettis up the middle. A 1 yard gain. 3rd and 9. Bettis has had 99 one yard gains this game. He's nearing 100 yards rushing." Piss off you fat wanker. Maybe the Jets will be impressed enough with you to pick you up after Sunday.
