NYT: Strain Is Seen in Giuliani Ties With President
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/13/national/13relations.html?ei=5094&en=22a62a2f164389d5&hp=&ex=1102914000&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print&position=

Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani had a Christmas dinner at the White House on Sunday night, and he attended with an important goal in mind: to apologize to his host for pushing Bernard B. Kerik as homeland security secretary and then watching as Mr. Kerik's nomination collapsed in legal problems and embarrassed the president of the United States.

That embarrassment has put a new strain on a mutually beneficial relationship that has always been more complicated than mere friendship.

<snip>

Mr. Giuliani added that he did not think the situation would hurt his relationship with President Bush or the White House. "It doesn't and shouldn't affect my feelings toward them, and I don't think it will affect their feelings toward me," he said. "We're friends."

The view at the White House is somewhat different. Although people close to the president say he likes and respects Mr. Giuliani, they say the president has long been leery of him as a man who could not be counted on for the loyalty demanded by Mr. Bush. And while the breakdown of Mr. Kerik's nomination is not lethal to Mr. Giuliani's relationship with the White House, the friends and officials say, it will hardly burnish his credentials with the president.

5. How many more recomendations do you think
the Bush cabal will take from Giuliani from now on? I doubt that they would even accept his recomendation of a good restaurant at this point.

The Bush crew SHOULD have been embarrassed at Rudy's bold-faced lie at the Convention when he claimd that the first words out of his mouth when the planes hit the WTC were, "Thank God George Bush is President." That was such an obviously outrageous lie that I am surprised that Bush believes ANYTHING that Rudy says now.

And now that Kerik will return to work at Giulian's security company, what position does that leave Rudy AND Bush in? Kerik has been exposed as a cheat and a liar in more ways than one. Doesn't make Rudy look too good to have the guy around working in security, for Chrissake..

I don't think Bush would ever fully trust Rudy anyway because Rudy like too much attention himself. He does NOT like to share the limelight with ANYONE, which is why he fired his first Police Commissioner, Bill Bratton.

8. Lying is OK, but only pro-Bush and if not caught
For "loyalty" read "eagerness to do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to promote George Bush's power at the expense of anything and anyone else." Rudy has had his uses, like helping * look heroic at Ground Zero, but it was inevitable that his boundless ego and sloppy thuggish showboating would knock him out of the chimperor's graces sooner or later. It really is amazing how far Rudy has overstepped. He got away with so much in the past--how many in-the-spotlight pols could screw their mistress on the job while trupeting Family Values?--he must have been convinced of his own invincibly glorious fate. Ooops! Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

13. That's why the jerk took all of
his papers with him when he left office instead of turning them into the city's library or wherever city officials leave their papers for futue generations to study. A record of the time spent in office. And guess what...no one has called him on it either. He and Kerik make good company because if one had a lot to hide, probably so did the other.

11. It sounds like the mafia
An underling grovelling and kissing the godfather's ring, or whatever they do. Giuliani has to worry about waking up with a horse's head in his bed.

19. A good pair of kneepads ought to help Rudy "burnish" his credentials
This whole thing is so far beyond disgusting..."the loyalty demanded by Mr. Bush"...like the loyalty Mr. Bush had during his National Guard service? THAT kind of "loyalty?"

:grr:

20. Despite the embarrassment to bushco,
bushco will end up USING this fiasco to deny, or at least withhold their support for Rudy for Pres in 2008. Even more than the Dems, busco (rove cabal) fears McCain and Rudy. Rudy and McCain are much too moderate for their tastes, and would undo alot of the fundy/right-wing legislation that has been passed, or will be passed. Rove definately wants someone like Frist to run in 2008, not McCain or Rudy...watch for a major falling out with McCain in the next few years.
