REELING PATAKI WILL AX TWO TOP POLITICAL GURUS

December 13, 2004 -- GOV. PATAKI, stung by a string of Repub lican losses and the growing perception of his own vulnerability, has decided to fire his top political consultants, The Post has learned.

Pataki's stunning — and unprecedented — political shake-up is the first since taking office in 1995, and will result in the dismissal of Arthur Finkelstein and Kieran Mahoney, two of the best-known figures in state politics, a senior GOP official said.

"This is a huge change of direction," said the official.

"These are the guys who have been closest to the governor, and you could say they have been lax in the advice they've been giving.

2. Isn't Pataki on his way out anyway?
T thought he was term limited and would not be running in 06 anyway. Why start rearranging the chairs now:shrug:

Democratic states simply MUST stop electing repube Governors and Secretaries of State.

3. NY governorship is not..
term limited. There's speculation on whether or not Pataki will run or throw his hat in the senatoral race against Guilliani and Hillary.
