Two Top Taliban Commanders Seized
Soldiers captured two senior Taliban commanders and six militants in south-central Afghanistan in a joint U.S.-Afghan operation, officials said Sunday.

The men were seized late Saturday in an operation in Charchino, a troubled district in Uruzgan province, U.S. military spokesman Maj. Mark McCann said. He said one was believed to be the brother of the former Taliban governor of southern Kandahar province, Pakistan's Daily Times reported.

"Among those arrested was another Taliban leader," an Afghan official said on condition of anonymity.

"Besides the brother of the former Kandahar governor there was another big Taliban commander," he said.

The capture took place the same day that the U.S. military initiated a new offensive, dubbed Lightning Freedom. The initiative hopes to persuade insurgents to accept an amnesty offered by President Hamid Karzai, to stabilize the country and allow foreign troops to pull back.

I believe these were the left index finger and right pinky figer of Mullah Omar

We still have to get the rest of the fingers and all the toes.

3. But we destroyed the Taliban, didn't we?
I mean they held elections in Afghanistan so truly they are a free, secular democracy now, right?

5. Not destroyed, but back now broken
However, the spinal cords of the Taliban and the Iraqi insurgency seem to be intact, because both are still kicking.

Kicking butt, one might even say.

11. Listen Lev
The Taliban were our friends when we needed them that way.
We gave them $43,000,000 in May of 2001 (Did that $ help something later?).
Then they became our enemies when we needed them that way.
When the Walker Lyndh kid joined our pals, he in fact joined our enemies. When George Walker Bush gave them $43,000,000 to be used against us later, they were our friends.
And because they kept Bin-Laden safe, they are our friends again.
I don't know how clearer I can make it.

I'll get George Orwell to chime in in a bit.

7. Was Every Taliban a "Leader"?
Geez, with the captures we've made, one would think there were no soldiers, only leaders. How can every capture Talban be a leader?

This is symptomatic of the mentality of these people who need "leaders". If the captured person isn't a "leader" they mean nothing. So, everyone has to be a leader or the capture doesn't matter.

Me, i don't need a leader. I need solid public servants with a broad vision, but i don't need to be led anywhere.
