6 Court-Martialed for Scrounging Equipment

More examples of supporting the troops.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- At a time when some U.S. troops in Iraq are complaining they have to scrounge for equipment, six Ohio-based reservists were court-martialed for taking Army vehicles abandoned in Kuwait by other units so they could carry out their own unit's mission to Iraq.

The soldiers say they needed the vehicles, and parts stripped from one, to deliver fuel to Iraq, but their former battalion commander said Sunday the troops should at least have returned the vehicles to their original units.

Members of the 656th Transportation Company based in Springfield, west of Columbus, said they needed the equipment to deliver fuel that was needed by U.S. forces in Iraq for everything from helicopters to tanks.

The reservists took two tractor-trailers and stripped parts from a five-ton truck that had been abandoned in Kuwait by other units that had already moved into Iraq, one of the reservists, Darrell Birt of Columbus, told The Associated Press on Sunday

1. "Man, Nothing Sucks More Than Getting Court-Matialed for Scrounging"
Strange choice of words for a journalist.

5. Demeaning Choice of words
Demeaning to BushCo. Bush took the great American fighting machine and has it Court-Martial for scrounging.

3. That's what they get for telling the world that they had to scrounge
This is revenge for telling the truth and sticking it right in Rumsfeld's lying smirking face.

4. Gee I think I'll Re-Enlist in this CLUSTER-FUCK
This will do more damage to re-elistments than 100s of pictures of caskets. Everyone in the service has done this since the beginning of time.

SOME ONE HAS THEIR HEAD BURIED DEEPLY UP THEIR RECTUM !!!!!!

8. Great optics here
Those guys should have just sat on their ass and did nothing. "Sir, all our vehicles are FUBAR, we can't complete the mission"

Hmm, maybe that would have got them in MORE trouble.

9. They're court-martialing people for Midnight Requisitioning?
Midnight Requisitioning is an Army tradition that's as old and time-honored as standing inside during Retreat, bringing a beer into the post movie theatre or signing in at three mess halls for Thanksgiving dinner. You're not supposed to do it, but no one ever got in trouble for it before.

I figure that if the owning units just abandoned the vehicles in Kuwait, they should have been free to all comers.

11. Back in my day resourcefulness was encouraged
In one particular incident my ship was ready to head out for the Tonkin Gulf except for one critical compressor or pump or something which needed a pulley. That part was not in stock anyplace. I believe it was some chief who broke from the pack, went to Sears and bought a pulley "off the shelf".

From the resulant commendations and general praise from the skipper and XO, you'd think this guy had just invented gravity and saved the world.

Evidently inventiveness and resourcefulness are bad; the new rule is "go with what you got."

12. Scrounging is the great tradition of military life
He who scrounges best has the most comfortable existance. These guys should get medals for their creativty and resourcefulness.

And in this case in particular it sounds like the material wouldn't have been used for any good purpose. What typical Bush misadministration nonsense.
