Pentagon Announces Units for Deployment

The units going to Iraq during the rotation beginning next year include:

* 101st Airborne Division, based in Fort Campbell, Ky.

* 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas

* 48th Infantry Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard.

* 1st Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, N.Y.

* 1st Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kan.

* 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The units going to Afghanistan include:

* 3rd and 4th Brigades, plus the headquarters, of the 10th Mountain.

* Headquarters element, 53rd Infantry Brigade, Florida National Guard.

He's a in a NG unit that supports the 4ID, expecting to ship out in early January. At least he'll get to spent the holidays with my family. My parents are out of their minds with worry.

9. Sorry to hear that...
my brother's been to the damn desert twice thanks to Bush Family oil wars. Sister-in-law's brother gets sent to Iraq in February. Sigh.

4. WTF? Didn't the 10th Mountain Division deploy to Afghanistan in 2001?
Wasn't the 10th Mountain Division in the fight at Tora Bora? WTF? Now they are splitting the 10th Mountain Division between Afghanistan and Iraq-nam. Merry-Fucking-Christmas soldier.

7. Yep and the 10th mountain deployment to
afghanistan made sense... that is what they train for...

Point is... they are making it as they go

And they don't give a damn!

6. When the ameircna people have to face sending their
kids... right now it is volunteers you see.... they volunteered for this see... hence all we have to do is wave a flag and say we suport the troops

10. And I'm seeing more and more of those "Support the Troops"
magnetic ribbons on cars these days, and "Freedom isn't Free" ribbons as well. Well, maybe more ribbons means that more people are going which hopefully means they'll start to question the relevancy of this war. But I"m not holding my breath.
