10. Bad! This is a good way to get him out of the Senate! Which is good!
He's awful, and even though this will give the Repukes an added seat (the Governor of CT is a Repuke and will appoint a Repuke), that person won't last after the two years until the seat is up for re-election. Short-term is bad since we lose a seat in the Senate; lon-termis great because we get rid of Holy Joe LIE-berman for good!

18. We have some popular R congresspeople here
Nancy Johnson or Chris Shays as a 2 year incumbent in Connecticut would be tough for any Democrat to beat.

25. I don't want to lose a D seat in the senate now
Also, Lieberman would get zero support from bushco in that thankless job of trying to handle a mixed bunch of bureaucracies hurled together in the aftermath of 9/11, with FBI and CIA agents abandoning ship in droves, and nobody trusting or talking with each other.

If there was another attack, bushco would blame it all on the Democrat. No thanks. I'm relieved that he said no.

30. And it would be LIHOP!
If we had a Democratic administration in place, then I'd feel confident that the Democrats could handle whatever happened.

But stick a token Democrat in charge of Homeland Security with those criminals in the WH? No way.

34. I don't think any "democrat" should consider ANY national security
or homeland security or "intelligence" appointment, at this time.

The Bush agenda is way too wacko and, I agree with you, "yardwork", scapegoatdom is to be avoided at all costs.

Besides, I'm sure there are plenty of suckers out there to take on the position. What'll be real fun is watching to see who is appointed the next NID.

84. Do we see bush inviting any republi-CONS into his cabinet from
the Senate or House? I haven't been keeping close track lately, but I sure don't remember any. It seems like he's always "reaching out" to Democrats - a VERY transparent move that's really designed to deplete our numbers in yet another way. He's not doing us any favors by trying to pull shit like this. Just more lipstick on more pigs.

Doesn't matter what the Democrats do. GOP will claim they are partisan.

Good for Joe--he saw through this bullshit. Course you'd have to be deaf, blind and dumb not to realize a republican governor would appoint a republican.

Get used to it--they are gonna claim the Democrats are not reaching across the aisle. It's worked real well so far. The Democrats should stop playing ball. Maybe this is a start. Let the asshole appoint Zell. Nobody believes he's a democrat.

17. I think Lieberman
had this planned all along. He wanted Bush to offer so he could say NO and make it a news story. That way he could get the best of both worlds...Bush would be hurt in the media by the snub and it would make Lieberman score some points with the Dem base AND make him look really respectable to have a president from the opposing party offer you a job. Joe is always in it for himself, but this time it played very nicely for us.

23. Notice that the coWard doesn't offer it to 'R' Senators in 'D' states
The Smirking Fascist isn't about to tap a Reichpublican Senator from a state with a Democrat as Governor ... or even with a Reichpublican Governor, which would lower the seniority of the Senator and run the risk of more easily losing to a 'D' candidate at the next election.

The political hypocrisy thicker than could be cut with a knife.

41. Sources: Lieberman rejects White House overtures
Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman has twice in recent days said "no" when approached about the possibility of a major job in the second Bush administration, CNN has learned.

The Cabinet vacancy at the Department of Homeland Security was the subject of the latest overture, according to congressional and other government sources. Those sources said the earlier overture was to see whether Lieberman might be interested in becoming the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.White House officials declined comment, saying they do not discuss personnel matters.

The Connecticut senator was traveling and not immediately available for comment. His spokesman said the senator had not received a formal job offer and was not seeking a new job, but the spokesman said he could not comment on whether the senator has spoken to administration officials or emissaries about the possibility of joining the Republican administration.

Lieberman, who was former Vice President Al Gore's running mate in 2000, authored the legislation that created the Department of Homeland Security and co-sponsored the resolution giving President Bush the authority to go to war with Iraq.

Lieberman (and others) originally proposes DHS, *moron shoots it down, then sets it up himself.
Ridge is appointed, and quits after one (two?) year after his orange crayon runs out.

Kerik (subject of Nightline as i write this) is a scumbag nominated and found to be lacking in about a nano-second by a lexis search on his credentials, so the choice goes back to one of the real originators of the dept, AND HE DOESN'T WANT IT EITHER??

feeling really protected now, Homies?

well, at least we got Bin Ladin, right?

78. here's one: Sources: Lieberman rejects White House overtures
CNN) -- Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman has twice in recent days said "no" when approached about the possibility of a major job in the second Bush administration, CNN has learned.

The Cabinet vacancy at the Department of Homeland Security was the subject of the latest overture, according to congressional and other government sources. Those sources said the earlier overture was to see whether Lieberman might be interested in becoming the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

White House officials declined comment, saying they do not discuss personnel matters.

The Connecticut senator was traveling and not immediately available for comment. His spokesman said the senator had not received a formal job offer and was not seeking a new job, but the spokesman said he could not comment on whether the senator has spoken to administration officials or emissaries about the possibility of joining the Republican administration.

They're best buds, you know, Hannity and Lieberman.
