Famed N.Y. hawks’ eviction rescinded
Know alot of people on DU were very interested in this story, so here's some good news:

Famed N.Y. hawks’ eviction rescinded
Design firm to pitch in on new Upper East Side dwelling

Updated: 9:43 p.m. ET Dec. 14, 2004

NEW YORK - A celebrated red-tailed hawk evicted last week from his upscale New York digs can move back to the ritzy apartment building where his nest was perched following an agreement on safety arrangements, building management said on Tuesday night.

Pale Male’s nest was abruptly removed from its Upper East Side site last week after complaints from building residents about falling debris, including gnarled remains of pigeons.

The removal sparked noisy protests from fans who had watched the hawk and his mates raise more than 20 chicks in the spot overlooking Central Park since 1993.

Late on Tuesday, New York City Audubon Society and the building’s board said they had agreed to restore the metal spikes supporting the hawk’s nest and erect a guardrail around its 12th-floor roost to safeguard residents and passersby.

An architectural firm was retained to consult on design and construction. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6714523/

4. Hope it's not too late.
The idiotic, hubristic human damage may have already been done and Pale Male may have been forced to move on, making this another bullshit public relations scam.

6. I can not imagine they would return now.....
Yes, I think it is public relations.... Prissy Paula Zahn is probably getting lots of nasty emails.

8. If they do not return, we will know about it. There are dozens of people
who watch that nest all the time...especially now that it is mating season.

The arrest of the Pale Male web site owner for "harrassing" Zahn's kid was the icing on the cake. The wealthy tenants can't be too happy with 100 people screaming outside the building every day.

24. I hope so too.
By the time the architect submits the design and the coop board meets to approve it and they hire a contractor to put it up, Pale Male may be long gone. I agree that this is merely a P.R. move to try to get rid of all the bad press they are getting.

5. Total victory.
Paula Zahn needs to question her intelligence in marrying a man who could create such a pr nightmare.

10. Paula and her husband and
their ilk should have their nest removed with no modern camping equipment to Timbuktu, better yet, at least 100 kilometers away from Timbuktu!

9. Awright!!!! Nice to end the evening on a high note.
Thanks, sleepless. Hope Pale Male and his ladies can raise a bunch more chicks and incidentally continue to thrill the humans for a long, long time. So good when people work together to accomplish something worthwhile like this.

Reminds me of one of my all-time favorite nonfiction books, a two-decade-spanning true story of a little village of idealists and engineers and other creative types founded on the plains of Columbia: "Gaviotas." Well worth looking up on Amazon.com. And Gaviotas is still going strong. Cause for hope.

And now, good night.

12. I heard they had protesters in front of the building with signs that said
"HONK FOR THE HAWKS", and that people were driving by and honking all day!! Guess the noise finally got to the residents of the building :D

14. I read that the residents were more concerned about telescopes
trained on their building than they were about the hawks.

17. Do his kids need a home?
Any bird that eats pidgeons is welcome to nest on my building! I'd rather clean up the occasional pidgeon carcass than a continual rain of pidgeon crap and nest litter!

20. Yes .
That is a wonderful pic! I just love birds. I currently have four. Two cockatiels, a white dove and a red rump parrot. Birds are so intelligent and affectionate. And fun to watch and be around. Wild birds are awe inspiring.

I'm a bird lover, too.

I was playing with a parrot today...a beautiful blue & gold macaw.

22. That's great!
Blue and Golds are the largest of the parrot family.

If I had a place large enough I would love to have larger birds also I have taken in many birds who needed a home and brought them to health and happpiness. They understand and show their love and appreciation so much.
